RE: 2022 Dacia Duster Extreme SE | PH Review
Discussion
I like it rather a lot. My mother has a Duster and loves it. I find the drive rather bland, the ride unresolved and hate the lack of clutch foot rest. But other than that, it’s great!
Nice to see no diamond cut spacker wheels on this, even though I’m not generally a fan of black. Wish these normal styled larger wheels were an option on other trim levels.

It's funny all these things car journos tell me "everyone" struggles to live without, while I'm here never having owned anything less than ten years old so have barely experienced most of them. Can't miss what you've never had, I suppose.
We specifically chose one because we didn't want stuff. PositronicRay said:

They just don't make sense at this money, imho.
I think you're right, all brands aspire to go up market.A year ago a prereg with few frills could be had at £10-11k. That's when they make sense.

I don't see local yobbos on the lookout for a Dacia, I think they'll be perfectly safe.
I know journalism of late have put Dacia cars on a bit of a pedestal, but people seem quick to forget that they're good - for what they are/cost - rather than good for a modern car.
Lots of these on Enterprise hire car fleets - they struggle to get people to book them because...well...
Judgement is easily clouded by value, which the Dacia offers in spades, but please can we stop with the rhetoric that they're all things to all men. Compared to their more expensive rivals; they're crap.
If they are being put on a pedestal, it’s because of what they offer at the price point. As the list prices of even the most mundane machinery continues to increase rapidly, Dacias strategy is refreshing.I know journalism of late have put Dacia cars on a bit of a pedestal, but people seem quick to forget that they're good - for what they are/cost - rather than good for a modern car.

I’ve not seen one review suggesting that they are anything other than at least perfectly adequate. At this price and for the vast majority of owners, this will be enough.
Enterprise, or any other car rental fleet for that matter, would not have them on their fleets if, as you suggest, customers refuse to book them. The fact that they do, and have for some time, tells me that this is absolute rubbish.
No one is suggesting they are all things to all men, but they most certainly do have a place in today’s market.
You state that they are crap compared to their more expensive rivals, you could be right. How much better is Ford or Vauxhall’s sub £16k seven seat offering?
The Prestige auto i had was £6k cheaper than the comparable Arkana and after a good look around a colleagues Arkana the Duster in my mind was the better buy.
That said after a month of ownership i sold it to buy what i really wanted (Rav4 phev) and i disliked the Duster for many reasons (some reasons others here couldn't get to grips with but when your not happy with a car it's better to get shot).

What’s the equivalent Quasqai, Tiguan, Kuga, etc go for in top spec? A damn sight more than £22k I imagine. Hell, you can even spec a Tiguan to over £50k these days.
If you want a new, warrantied up car you can’t get much more VFM than Dacia these days.

These things strike me as the new Renault 4 / Citroen 2CV - basic dependable and classless.
Whats not to like (except all the electronic crap !)
Despite my tongue in cheek post earlier, I agree with this. The R4 of 2022 and none the worse for that. Whats not to like (except all the electronic crap !)
As far as the price goes, cars industry generally is undergoing a shift from a strategy based on maximising sales volumes to one based on maximising margins. Dacia might well be going upmarket in terms of pricing, but the 'premium' brands will do so even more. So Duster will still be relatively cheap, if not absolutely so.

So uncomfortable and boring then…. Nice to see no diamond cut spacker wheels on this, even though I’m not generally a fan of black. Wish these normal styled larger wheels were an option on other trim levels.
I will never understand why someone will spend 15k to 20k on uncomfortable and boring…. I mean what’s left of the car after that ?
Not for me to understand I guess lol but still…. Consumers will be consumers…
