RE: Lotus Eletre makes global public debut
Discussion
Seems a sensible survival plan to me, to diversify the range whilst keeping the core sports car ethos alive.
An electric SUV is definitely flavour of the month, whatever your personal preferences and has to appeal to world markets, of which some of the biggest want BIG cars. (Personally, I would prefer cars to be bigger on the inside and smaller on the outside which should be possible with the packaging advantages of EVs).
On that subject, mention of a hatchback on the previous page reminded me of the Sunbeam Lotus - a modern interpretation of that could be epic and would appeal to a whole new customer base imo, or be a “practical” other car in the garage for Emira owners? Electric or ICE???
Bit of a shame ownership of Lotus is what it is, but still…

As much as I love lotus i just can't get on board with the Eletra. After seeing it at Goodwood its just too big for the UK. At 5.1M long and 2.2M wide
Wider than an L405 Range Rover. That will make standard 2.0m London width restrictions exciting. Someone at my Son's school drops their kid off in a Q7 every day. If you put aside the fact that we have become desensitised to these things, take a step back and look at it objectively, it is just stupidly oversized for a congested English town. The thing is almost comically bloated when parallel parked next to a Focus and a 3-series. Somehow the manufacturers have convinced us that it's not just acceptable, but desirable, to use a vehicle that uses 95% as much road space as a base model Transit van to transport a 30kg child 3 miles to school.
I get the argument that it's designed for China/USA/Middle East etc with their plus-sized roads, but that won't make me feel better the next time I can't open the door of my sensibly sized hatchback because someone has parked their tank next to it at Tesco.

Designed in China, made in China, owned by China. No interest funding China any more than I have to so I'm out.

How could they have designed a large EV SUV to look like an Emira ?
Graft on the Emira's nose and end up looking like the gargoyle that was the 1st Cayenne ?
I think the design suits the purpose of the vehicle and doesn't need to show any "Lotus DNA" ... whatever that is.
They have very obviously carried certain styling cues through, though they have avoided, as you say, a Cayenne job.Graft on the Emira's nose and end up looking like the gargoyle that was the 1st Cayenne ?

+1By the way, did an Eletre go up the hill at Goodwood?
