Half a million quid is just stupid.

A 22b would do me fine

How can they justify the price.

Welcome to capitalism.
Please list the memorable cars produced by Cuba, East Germany, the USSR or, indeed, any truly socialist country. Trabant, FSO...
Early Skodas have some great racing history but then look what happened.

All sold out is a common sales tactic at this end of the market. I’d be surprised if 25 people have deposited and signed a contract…
Totally agree, this is just marketing BS. They will never make or sell 25 of these. A Polestar 2 is quicker, far superior tech, and £450000 cheaper.
This has to rank as one of the daftest posts on PH. And there is plenty of daft st posted on here.

Definitely a bubble as with lots of things today like property which is insane in places. It will crash and bite hard!
How long have people been saying that for?

But why not just buy an ex Prodrive WRC car, or a real 22B if you want something for the road?
Because people want one of these instead? Or they already have (or have had) both of the above?

Bespoke build, WRC+ technology, exclusivity. It's really not complicated.

It's strange that Subaru were slow to adopt sequential gearboxes. They were experimenting with it in the early '90s if I remember rightly, but retained an H-pattern shift for a long time. Mitsubishi started using sequential 'boxes quite early in the development of the Evo, and Ford switched the Escort to one around the time the Escort WRC came along. Weirdly, the 2.0-litre F2 cars were sequential before a lot of the 4WD cars.

My understanding is that this car is the “Goldilocks option” or if you prefer the bit In the middle of a Venn diagram
When you get 90% off the performance and engineering of a WRC car, and 90% of the daily usability of a fully refreshed 22B.

It’s the sweet spot if the cost isn’t your primary consideration, but unfortunately cost is for most of us.
As long as there are more buyers with deep pockets than product then they will sell all of them and the second hand price will only go higher.

Ive got ex trader friends who think nothing of £1m cars, one has just sold his 918 for £1.7m, he bought it for £950k.

He says his 812 Superfast is nicer and faster than his Veryon, the P1 is mental and his 250SWB is far nicer to drive than his 300sl gullwing.

If this P25 was far too expensvie people with multi millions wouldnt buy them , because they are often shrewd and buy on investment basis.

Indeed. It's not that expensive for some people - children of the 80s/90s who have built a successful career.

I think it’s interesting that it’s £550k for the base 22b without the options they are talking about such as upgraded seats etc, I think some will come out at £600k+ depending on what is offered and pricing

No, but an EPB is.
Hydraulic handbrakes are perfectly legal. So long as they are their own system and not connected to the braking hydraulics.

Well a real 22B sold last year at auction for £171,000.

Many people who can afford £150-200k can afford £500k.

By the looks of it there is around £150k of workshop hours, £50k of donor and probably £50k of parts. There is a decent profit margin in there but I suspect getting an independent specialist to set your workshop build restomod as well would cost pretty similar money. If you want perfection you are going to pay for it.

I agree you could get 90% of this for a fraction of the cost.

I made a serious enquiry to Prodrive after they first announced the P25 but not had any response back. Anyone got any insight into how the allocation process worked?
I think you need to send them 450k then wait a few years and send them the rest! laughlaugh
Sadly you’re wrong laughlaughlaugh

Prodrive confirmed to me today that I’m not one of the 25. They have offered me a reserve slot though for a refundable £50k deposit. They also told me that the 25 buyers were asked to pay a £250k deposit....

How can there be reserve spots if 25 people have paid a £250k deposit?

That’s a question for Prodrive but I guess that some may not complete the purchase by paying the balance.

Thank you for your enquiry regarding the P25.

Firstly, can I apologise for taking so long to get back to you. We have been overwhelmed by the interest in the new car and have been trying to work our way through the hundreds of enquiries. With such great interest, the limited run of 25 cars have now been allocated to buyers.

The top specification car is priced at £461,000 (ex. VAT) and customers are required to place a £250,000 deposit.

However, we are creating a reserve list should for any reason one of those buyers decide to withdraw from the process. If you wish to secure a place on the Reserve List, we require a £50,000 refundable deposit.

If you are still interested in acquiring a P25, please do get in touch by reply.

Kind regards,

Natasha
