So essentially an uglier, more expensive version of the Q8RS then. If they wanted to make it a proper Lambo, they perhaps could have popped a V12 at the front and a load of batteries in the back for a hybrid system. I’m guessing that the engine wouldn’t fit in the Toureg chassis and the development costs would have been much cheaper to just slap an Audi engine in there and map the output to be a fraction more.
Exactly!

I’ve seen loads of these (yep fair play VW you know the market, not denying any of that) and don’t find them in the least bit impressive. They are just so obviously a shared VAG car with a bit of Italian fettling, some additional angles and fins and a ludicrous price. I just do not get the appeal, i find them so dull/obvious to look at.

The comment above about “a big aventador” is so far wide of the mark, I was recently in Monaco and there was a Urus next to an SVJ roadster, the SVJ was insane, wide, imposing, just awesome, the Urus couldn’t be more different, it looks like an imitation Lambo.

Maybe the next iteration will be more special.

Purists on here keep moaning. Lamborghini/Audi/VAG keep winning.

Personally I love the Urus' success, and in particular those residuals, which (as I said on the Bentley profit announcement thread) just goes to show how brilliant VW are at brand management; certainly they're better at it than anyone on here could ever hope to be.
It's still a bit depressing though, isn't it? That Lamborghini can make more money by re-badging an Audi than by making supercars? They canned the Estoque to make the Urus, because there was no point making a better car when they can just re-badge a Q8 and watch the money rolling in, knowing full well the people buying the car simply didn't care provided it had the right badge and cost enough.

Residuals are massively propped by covid and the war in Ukraine affecting supply.

We’re on our 3rd urus in the fckit household , so probably fair to say we quite like them.

Thus far the previous 2 have been problem free and have made a profit after owning each a year . Difficult to argue with free motoring.

Do I think they are worth 200 plus ? No of course not, but the market begs to differ .

The Svrs are more solidly built imho and the g wagon is a pointless waste of time.

In the world of hyper SUVs the urus stands alone even if it’s not the fastest anymore.

I used to pass a house that always had a Urus parked outside it, and always assumed the buyer had made an enormous financial error choosing to spend more on his car than his house, but maybe I was wrong…

Had a test drive not long after the Urus was launched, thought it was awful. Yes, it is quick but it is very nosey and not spacious at all. Th DBX is vastly superior.

Can't see the appeal of these ghastly things in the slightest, even if I had the money.

Which I don't...so I suppose VAG won't be losing any sleep over it biggrin.

I get it. Either you need a practical car and money is no object at all, or you don't like sports cars but want to show off, or some combination of the two.

Not really a car I lust after but if I was in a place where I really was that rich and needed something big with a big boot I could ferry people about in, I can't see why one of these wouldn't be a contender. Not at the top of the list (that would be the Grand Cherokee Hellcat if I wanted something modern, or else some estate from at least 30 years ago with at least 8 cylinders), but a contender nonetheless.

"Fake" Lambo though it may be, it feels less naff somehow than the Bentley and Rolls equivalents.

What I find depressing is the fact you can't accept that the market doesn't care for what you want. Lamborghini made the right choice to can the Estoque; who buys luxury saloons these days? Also, how is the Estoque the 'better car'? Based on consumer demand and sales success, the Urus is clearly the better car for those in the market for something to carry the family in with a Lamborghini badge stuck on its nose. Rolls-Royce have had the exact same result with the Cullinan becoming their fastest selling car and have seen overall sales and profits soar as a result.

The fact that even Ferrari are making an SUV also shows that people with families do not want large luxury saloons, they want large luxury SUVs. That's not depressing, that's manufacturers not being stupid by supplying that need.

If you don't like that fact, there are plenty of choices for large luxury saloons. Just understand you are the minority when it comes to what you like as the market has moved on, and good luck at resale time if you do indeed buy one...

That doesn't explain the outright sales success though - they massively outsell everything else Lamborghini makes.

Lottery win car for me, not keen on the Kermit or Custard coloured versions, but I’d love a battleship grey one please.

Me too, huge fan. There's a dark blue one nearby, looks and sounds great, especially on cold mornings.

Moan
Groan
Stereotype as much as you can

Whinge some more on the internet
Be miserable for the rest of the weekend

Is this a British thing? I don't see Europeans and Americans being so miserable all the time.

Last one I saw was bright lime green, in Bradford and the driver was dealing drugs out of the window to the occupants of a council house.

Subtlety not being a strong point here.

Daily rental/ trade plates a definite!

A near neighbour of mine has had one for a couple of years after a line of Range Rovers . Every one of them had the usual faults and less than complete reliability so he took the plunge and got one . It’s in a decent restrained colour and my first thoughts weren’t complimentary. A ride in it changed my view and over time it’s grown on me to the extent that I tend to think that if you do want this sort of vehicle then go for a full “ in your face” one . This does just that and , at times , I confess a small feeling of envy to my wife .

Yes it is a cultural thing. The funny thing about the urus is that it actually blends in, meaning non car people do not care about it. As the one in featured in the article, will blend in on the uk roads, unless you truly know what it is.

I don’t dislike the Urus as a concept, the luxury fast SUV is certainly a popular choice.

I dislike the urus for the below reasons:

- Usually owned for “clout”, showboating etc. Gives it a crass image.
- Not a bespoke car but charges a bespoke price. Share way too much with “lesser” cars.
- Lambo probably the least compatible brand to port into an SUV. The super loud edges of your seat driving style of the sports cars doesn’t translate well into the SUV.
- Lack of exclusivity. I live in Cheshire & see way too many of them.

That’s why I bought a DBX. Far classier, more bespoke & Astons brand differentiators meld better with the SUV platform.

These are just my opinions though
