I’d argue the opposite and say the defender is the best - internally and externally - looking 4x4 on sale today.

The Cullinan gets my vote for most tasteless, closely followed by the Urus.
I totally agree with you regarding the Defender. There’s nothing showy about it. It’s stylish in a very understated way. If I had the money and lived somewhere rural it would be my first choice.

Saw one of these the other day in this fetching shade too. The very height of good taste !

In x years, will we be saying that BMW got the styling spot on, much like some approval of Bangle BMWs?
There hasn't been a BMW made this century that looks good, the older ones only look better as the new ones are even worse.

I never minded most of the Bangle era cars. There were elements that were odd or ugly but some worked well. The Z4 for example is much better than the current iteration, as was the X5.

I guess in many cases he was following near perfection, E38, 39 and 46.

Noisy, tacky and constantly regenerated in the form of 'special editions' to paper over the fact it's 14 years old.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 - Looks like a reject from the back to the future movies - designed on a etch-a-sketch and not in a good way - looking very dated already before you even get to the asking price

Saw one of these in the flesh for the first time this weekend. Dear Lord, gopping doesn’t do it justice - it really is monstrously bad hurl
The Merc is bad but this one makes you want to gouge your own eyes out.

Not in a million years. Have you seen one close-up, in real life? The grille is a piece of flat plastic painted/stickered to make it look like the grille of an ICE car with a shadow effect and it looks appalling. The glossy black plastic parts look like they've been constructed from the same material as those black plastic trays you buy sushi or trays of sandwiches in from a supermarket.

People asked the same question about Mk2 Scorpio. Nearly 30 years on, it still looks as bad as it ever did so I don't really see that the appeal of the iX will improve over time.

I disagree.

For that it is, I think it looks really good. The wheels are funky and fun too. Far prefer this to most of the blobby fk ugly crossover SUV crap that is sold.

Bentley Bentayga Speed Feroza Edition, not a factory edition, you have 900hp to make a quick escape from people laughing.

Jeez, that is indeed awful - looks like a Chinese 'interpretation' of a Mercedes
I saw one in Dallas recently - and in the flesh they actually…. look like a Chinese knock off laugh

Maybe, but I would hardly describe it as tasteless, certainly not the most tasteless compared to some of the above suggestions

You've given reasons why you don't like it, but haven't explained how it's tasteless. I suspect because it isn't - and yet, the thread title...
It's tasteless as it's a slovenly styled lump of SUV that's good at nothing other than extracting lots of money from a punter via a finance agreement.
Because no-one is putting north of £70k down to buy one of these things with their own money up front.

It doesn't look good from any angle, - big grill, bulky styling, fails in looking to be in any way 'sporty', usual Audi dull interior , i could go on. In pure functional terms it does not do the main job of being a conveyance at all well. It's the epitome of why SUV's are awful and to me, yes it's tasteless because it was clearly commissioned by a marketing department in Ingolstadt and not a car designer with taste or style.

I thought the E34's were a particularly handsome car.

What the fking fk? Who in their right minds would think that up, and who in their right minds would buy it? How many stick-on vents do you need in a, I use the word advisedly, car?
