I don’t automatically cut corners and cross the line into the other lane when on an open sighted twisted road unless it’s absolutely necessary.

It’s because I get enjoyment from working the steering to keep within my own lane when out for a spirited drive.

Feel cheated if the odometer is changing from eg 59999 to 60000 and I miss seeing it change biggrin

Even moreso if it's a 99999 to 100000
If I miss the nice round number for my odometer photo collection, I take a 'just after' picture and doctor it in a photo editor.

That's okay, isn't it? We all do it, don't we? You did say this just stays between us, didn't you?
Of course it's okay, just another level biggrin

Think I've got just 2 100000 photos from the last 46 years, obviously need to up my game smile
I'm on 96000 at the minute. Anticipation!

Ever driven a Citroen C4 Cactus? They're woeful.

I'm a lucky boy in that I've had a few years of getting to drive tons of stuff ranging from £150 stboxes all the way to brand new Bentleys and out of every 'newish' car I've driven, those Cactus's are the worst. They're built badly out of cheap material. The steering feels like it's done by pulling two pieces of string. The petrol engines are hopeless, the front seats would be more at home outside a bus stop and the infotainment screen they use looks and feels like it's come out of a ToysRus catalogue. You'd be better off going to work on your hand and knees.

I love small, cheap cars because they almost always do exactly what you want them to do (like paulrockliffe's Citigo), but there's definitely still some crap out there.

I had a Cactus hire car once, the auto gear box was so slow to change I genuinely thought it would have to abandon the change as the revs (and speed) had dropped so much between gears. Didn't stop me getting two speeding tickets in one day trip to Holland though.

I've given up speculating on the secret agenda of middle lane morons, and now regard them as non player characters.

It's simple, staying in the middke lane means you can just set the cruise control and then not think about the traffic around you.

It's just pure laziness

I ALWAYS acknowledge drivers who’ve stopped for me at all the annoying traffic calming measures I’m constantly encountering nowadays. Just a quick wave, even though I’ve got priority. I think it’s fair to say I’m in the minority.

I have had five cars with launch control and never used it once.
I've had it on more than 5 and never felt the need once.

Mind you most of mine tend to be manuals - but really fast cars just don't need max attack launches on the public road.

Cars like my GT-R and Mac 650S really really didn't need to have the help

+1 from me too. Saying that, anyone who barrels through when I have the priority gets a slightly different wave from me.

Every time I buy a car with paint in good condition I think "this time, I'll keep it like that" and spend the first few months ensuring I never encroach into the stonechip zone behind any other cars.

Then I find myself stuck behind some dhead who doesn't understand that he's not simply at the front of a queue, nor that the rapidly increasing tail of traffic is due to his selfish driving. Flashing headlights is perceived as an insult to his mother's virtue and his father's ability to grow a beard and should only be carried out as a last resort. So, once past the traffic he's overtaking at 0.0000001mph speed difference I move to the "if you move over I will pass you swiftly and not match your speed to baulk you behind that lorry half a mile in front" following distance.

Repeat several times a week for a year, then I'll be washing the front of the car one day and thinking "bugger... That's a lot of stonechips... I should have kept it looking nice".

I never learn, me.

I'm approaching the magic 77608 miles. Why is that magic? Because my car had a new speedo at 22392 miles so it'll really be 100k. The speedo replacement is noted in the service book, not that it will have any effect on the value of the car at this point.

I'm racking up the miles on my bike recently and watched it tick over to 40000 about a week ago.

For some years I had this estate, 2.0 diesel manual, 6 speed it was. First gear seemed to be designed to enable you to make a hill start on Hard Knott Pass whilst fully loaded with a caravan hooked on the back. So you'd no sooner got it rolling than had to go for second.

One day I discovered that second was OK for setting off from standstill, even on very slight slopes uphill if you were careful with the revs and clutch. But the gear was long enough to get a decent wiggle on before needing third. I used to delight on one set of lights where not long after two lanes became one by setting off in second and seeing the vehicle in the other lane go backwards as they went for the change from first to second. Extra enjoyment if it appeared they had been going for the 'win' and slightly anticipated the green.

Childish? Absolutely.

Nowadays I just trundle about, at least think I trundle about, mostly got the dog with me and he really doesn't appreciate any spirited driving, but still surprised just how slow people are. Even compared to a relatively low powered diesel auto 4x4.

Here in France where the motorways are largely empty and everyone sets their cruise control to 133kmh, I have a new game.

If the road is bending round to the left I move into the left lane to overtake people simply by travelling for a smaller distance round the same bend, and tell myself I am being fuel efficient. On right hand bends I stay in the right hand lane.
