Sometimes it's not just about power. About 0-60, about speeds, about where that power is deployed.
It's about a feeling, a kind of shiver and fear and excitement when an engine starts, the wide eyed look when the power starts to come on, the noise, the sheer visceral connection.
This is the perfect summary of how the motoring industry have gone wrong for petrolheads, at least in my opinion. It's about a feeling, a kind of shiver and fear and excitement when an engine starts, the wide eyed look when the power starts to come on, the noise, the sheer visceral connection.
It's seems like it's just a big willy waving contest these days to see who can make the most power. And most consumers just lap it up because they don't care about that "feeling".
I get why they do it, they're businesses at the end of the day and are there to make the most money possible. But most new cars just leave me cold now.
As an engineering feat...superb an incredible achievement by AMG...as something to stir your soul, zero interest in a four pot 2.0L engine no matter how fast it is...this will never take the place of a growling V8...nice car wrong engine.
Imagine Porsche doing something like this, for example take the glorious flat 6 out of a Cayman or Boxster and install a flat 4 beetle engine...the motoring world would kill themselves laughing...oh wait..!!!
The Germans eh, who said they have no sense of humor.

This was in part the reason I bought a new C63S last year. I wanted to tick the V8 box before it was too late.
However, take off the C63 monica and it's actually a damn fine car, lots of tech and performance that just sounds astounding, but trying to mimic the noise etc just seems so wrong.
As others have said MB/AMG should have gone full electric with this and create a rival for the Taycan, and people can have performance in a package that can handle the weight etc.

Glad I have previously owned, as daily drivers, 3 - W204 C63’s.
Remember picking the 1st one up from MB Liverpool in 2010, a truly special PP car, the M6 was never so ‘short’…
Of its time & in the moment, 6mpg, absolutely bonkers - loved every second I spent in these cars, always special, always an occasion.
2 litres and a leccy motor, I will try one, but I very much doubt it’s for me, hum ho…

I would imagine the acceleration will be intense, and sixty will be a number starting with a 2
We've definitely lived in a performance car world now for a few years...where the remit is to give the car as much bhp/torque as possible to try to hide the weight.
I don't mind the Top Trumps aspect because I've always liked fast cars, and performance numbers have always interested me too. However I definitely do still struggle with the weight of stuff now though.
I can't believe that this is over 500kg heavier than the already heavy 1600kg F82 M4 that I have now.

Totally. A car created entirely for people who think driving enjoyment or motoring enthusiasm is all about Top Trumps figures and straight line heroics on their local bypass, and without a doubt a total hand grenade to own out of warranty too.
I was thinking the same - these are going to be a maintenance timebomb as a used car after 5-6 hard years of being ragged around suburban streets and repeated traffic light drag races.I quite like the estate though!
AMG saloons have always been defined by a filthy sounding V8.
On the plus side, once all the interesting and distinctive sounding combustion cars have been killed off (and the last C63 was one of the most interesting and distinctive sounding of all), it makes the inevitable switch to electrification far easier to stomach.

Sorry, Koenigsegg have beaten them to it with the Gemera.
