I payed that much for a manual 325 coupe that's nicely specced, the bodywork is presentable and it's been mechanically looked after too. That thing is horrendous, when you're dealing with cars this cheap it's better to just spend a little bit more and get better one. Think about what a decent set of tyres cost in relation to the car, labour on the parts install etc.
Exactly. Just the cost of getting the exterior and the seats looking half decent would take this into the range where you could easily buy a much better one, and that's before you think that if the bits you can see and easily look after are that bad, imagine what state the oily bits are in.

the M54B22 is a decent motor, sounds sweet and revs well.

Low to mid 20's on mixed run.. Hmm.. I currently run an E46 330i and am seeing ~30mpg for the mixed short commute. On a run it does high 30's.
Snap. Just done a 3h round trip on the M6 in mine and got 38mph without trying too hard. You can't get low 20 for trying, short of maybe on track.

Pre-cat O2 sensors (genuine Bosch OEM spec.) gained me about 4mpg on mine on the daily commute, instantly. The BMW service schedule says to replace every 100,000 miles.

Mine will do 37mpg at 70-75 on cruise on the motorway, 6 speed 330Ci Convertible, less if on lanes or overtaking and flooring it for a few seconds at a time, mid 20s all around town, probably around 30mpg in mixed use with some longer trips. Not so bad for what it is really. 1 litre of oil per about 1500 miles for me, never changed in 7 years, I can live with it.

I calibrated the OBC and it's within 1mpg now over many tanks, was slightly less accurate before, but even then still only about 2mpg out on average.

^ When the pre-cat O2 sensors needed doing the exhaust smelt very rich at idle, even with a warm engine, could smell the fumes wafting around.

The average economy on my E46 325ti over the period I had it was 31.7mpg which if I’m honest is higher than the new cars I’ve had with 6 cylinder engines.

A trader selling a car advertised as spares/ repair doesn't have to stand by it when it sts itself all over the road.
There's a problem looming with this particular pos like a head gasket problem for instance which has been temporarily fixed with a bottle of gunge .
That drivers seat says something not very hygienic about the previous owner..
It's a £500 breaker..

Yeah, as my previous post, I know what you mean! I've heard the 3 litres are worse for oil consumption than the 2.2 and 2.5 (although some don't use any - it's a lottery). I never replaced the CCV on mine - it wasn't giving any failure symptoms. I did however rebuild pretty much the entire cooling system, although it was fairly easy and not that dear.
On oil consumption, my brother ran an E46 328i (M52TUB28) when I had my 330i (M54B30); his used no oil - ever. Seems BMW changed the piston rings from the 2.8 to the 3.0, and that's where the problem started.

Bumper look like they’re from another car.
No; they're genuine facelift SE Coupe & Cabrio issue bumpers. They look odd as the majority of UK E46 coupes & cabrios of this generation were M Sports, so these ones were seldom seen.

Someone once mentioned to me how farcical non purposed "roof cut" convertibles were and I immediately understood and agreed at the naffness.
Some are worse that others....like the Vauxhall Corsa.

Even a "Parts special" MG like I have, is actually purpose build to be a convertible sports car, not so much a poseurs car like this.
168hp, mid 8s on this heavy nearly 1.4 tonnes roof cut convertible ?

How very uninteresting.

This is such a weird cliche. The E46s were designed to be all four body shapes from the start. There was an E36 convertible ffs, it's not like having a convertible version was something that occurred to BMW after they'd built the coupe.

It's also a nice looking car, roof up or roof down. I've not driven an E46 'vert' but it drives anything like the coupé it's a good peddle. Maybe not an all out sports car, but they are very nice willing engines, comfortable enough seats and interior, steers perfectly respectability for what it is, with room for four or five.

If you want the 2 seat sports car, it is the z4 model.

The Ci Coupe is wider than the saloon and estate. I assume the Cabriolet is based on the Ci Coupe so that too is wider than the saloon and estate.

It reads like snobbery to me.

I think the E46 Coupe is a very classy, clean design.

I'm very biased, but I can't imagine how you could look at the vert with the roof down and think it's some kind of afterthought.

The cabrio and coupe are basically identical from the doors forward as well as underneath, apart from the extra bracing for the cabrio.
