People are so bitter and cynical on here; unbelievable.

This might be the last we see a V10 - ever! And to think you can get the pre-facelift of these for £75k now; basically a classier looking Lamborghini.

I get the impression if people can't afford it, they'll basically have a go at it. I can't say I'm a fan of the aero additions - but a V10 super car with a drift mode. Er, yeah I'll have a go please!
It can be the other way round too. I think the Ferrari, Lambo and Mclaren boys don't like them beucause they are too affordable :-)

I've been watching the Murchy rebuild series: (very good series and a very watchable presenter)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V38ZwdPyMSo

... the extend Lambo pull their customers' pants down is shocking to say the least. Valve shims in the most common size? £35 each. less popular ones? £6. Murchy headlamp unit, £10,700 +vat. Piston rings? £130 ish each. They just charge what the feel like charging. Poor sod's just paid over £2500 for an oil pump.

Started reading the article, got bored half way through (£200k, wasting 800 tyres on a sold out car, stupid adjustable drift modes?!) Scrolling through the pictures thinking meh.

Then got to the pictures of the original R8, that'd do for me.
I’ve never been a fan of the MK2, to my eyes the original is a much better resolved design though I never liked the interior. A bit more bespoke bits rather than standard Audi equipment for lesser models would’ve been better but I guess that kept the price down. MK1 with the 2’s interior and a manual would be perfect.

Do I read that correct the traction control switches itself back on at speed???? That is a bloody nightmare and renders the car useless for serious track work. “Who wants to drift above 144KPh?” Me for one and I do every single time I take my Gen 1 RWS car out on track with its fully switchable stability control, which is firmly switched off. As mentioned in the review the throttle modulation of the V10 is sublime at speed and the car is really easy to balance on the point of grip without any electronic intervention. If this is true that leaves the Gen1 RWS as the only R8 with fully switchable stability control.
Interesting that they have gone back to the gear ratios that are in my car which is a pre PPF Gen1 RWS. I have always thought that they were perfect in every way. I never realized that cars with PPFs had revised (worse?) gear ratios.
Incidentally you do not need any spanners to change the bump and rebound settings, just reach in and twiddle the knobs, they are brilliant dampers.
Loving this car, perfect validation of my car, I should be charging a royalty fee laugh Touch more downforce wouldn’t go amis. driving

If it has 300kg of downforce, what happens if you hit a large bump at that speed with most of the suspension movement used up by the aero?

maligned because of the looks? So much of that has to do with the TT of course coming first and it being difficult to see the R8 as a wholly different vehicle. Much the same way as the 911 probably would be maligned if the Cayman had come first?

I dont think anyone actually sees the R8 the same as a TT, do they?
It's just the same crap people comment on every R8 article.
The R8 is a proper mid engined supercar, closer to a Lamborghini than a TT.

No, not see it the same but plenty of people seeing an R8 on the road and a TT on the road will see 'family resemblance' - if the TT had never come about and the R8 been launched as the supercar that it is to take on the 911 etc then I'm sure there would be fewer disparaging comments and more recognition for the car it is. The 911 history helps it of course but the R8, despite being a great car has little "wow" factor (in looks) I think for a lot of people

I disagree, I think most people see a R8 and think "wow".
Perhaps people are more easily pleased in my area laugh

Don't think anyone will argue with you there!

(but the next wow! comes at servicing/problem time :-) - and the madness is they share a LOT under the body) - but I agree, wow, and thrice wow - stunning car.
