Don't BMW look at their back catalogue and think, 'Where did it all go wrong?'

That looks like something only a 12 year old would like the look of. I know I'm getting on a bit but taste seems to of gone out of the window at BMW a long while ago now. They used to be great cars to look at and drive, now just too 'wideboy' for me.

Its got to the point with BMW that I'm no longer angry, just disappointed!

Apparently they look at it and the only thought is whether or not they can make some money by copying some old paint onto something from the current lineup.

I really like this.
Should be available on the range listing at this late stage in ICE.Needs an alloy strip betwwen rear lights and a smaller grill.
i redesigned it on my phone using a finger in 30 seconds and in a taste comparison i reckon I'd beat BMW's in house team.
Really? I thought that was a photoshop.

Thing is the original looked like it did for a reason, this is styling for stylings sake and a pretty disjointed effort at that. It just isn't a very good piece of car design, I know it will fly off the shelves, but that is down to the badge. I've long been interested in car design (almost went into it as a career), the Koreans and even the Chinese are proving to be better at car design/styling than BMW. Maybe that's because all the good designers working for the German brands went east.
Totally agree with your point regarding race car had race car bits to go faster and maximise the rules of the time. This is a clear homage to that car. So has to kinda look like it, if that’s the brief to link in with the anniversary. It is a styling exercise which I’m not keen on either but do understand what they’re doing. The E46 which was much better resolved from base model 318i up to CSL. CSL was not styling for the sake of it. It was a proper limited production run performance car that looked lovely. Shame this isn’t the same.

I know some people are going to love this but I think it looks terrible. I'm sure it's a great drive and very quick but it just looks big heavy and bloated. Like a middle aged chubby chap in a branded tracksuit.
It looks a bit like Elvis, in the twilight of his career. A fat bloke in a spangly white jumpsuit.

I agree, the 'original' looks so much better and cohesive, the wing of which looked efficient whereas this ones looks contrived. And ugly.
I hate to say it but if I had the money for one of these I'd rather spend it on the splendid original, which looks delicate yet purposeful, with a touch of 'class' that this thing is lacking.
Class is the word! That’s what’s been missing for sometime with BMW. They aren’t the only ones guilty! But an e9 is class and I’d sit and look at an e9 as much as drive it if I owned one. Just for the joy of looking at it.

I can excuse its looks on the basis that it is a 'proper' driver's car i.e a manual. It think the major disappointment will be its weight (aside from the fact that none of us will get to drive it).

Maybe they will let us have a cabby at the anniversary next year.

like the VAG diesel gate consumers don't give a ste about history just the badge and kudos attached. Why so many white mercs or Audis owned by young people, with Renault engines or slow, because they don't really care about what there were, and the Germans are making profits by the bucket load.

Only so much you can do when it's based on the existing M4.

No-matter what evocative stickers you put on it, it still looks like a Ford Mustang with a Libertywalk kit.

They even had to fake a Hoffmeister Kink.

Shame on you BMW, SHAME. laugh
My thoughts exactly ... it has morphed into an ugly Ford Mustang.

Another piece of ugly st sold to millionaires and not available for sale as they have chosen the 50 worthy collectors already.

Another depressing article for a new car that’s not even for sale or you’re ever likely to see apart from parked in a museum or at Salon Privé.

What a mess. I mean seriously what are BMW thinking? I honestly didn't think the M4 could be made any uglierhurl Those arches ... urgh.

Its basically a full scale working model that will sit in a collection.biggrin

I just don't get it ...

OMG.. whatever is going on with BMW??
The design and quality of their cars have gone to pot.
There's so many better cars out there than this type of thing. A CSL in badge only...

BMW peaked with the E46 CSL. It’s utter perfection. This, an utter mess, like a bag of ideas thrown together. Nothing in their range remotely intrigues me anymore.

Less bhp/tonne than an Exige 430 Cup.
All but 50% heavier
And quite likely slower and less fun on track.

It hasn't gone wrong for their bank balance, at all - so I pretty much doubt it.

That dusty old BMW isn't a good-looking car to me, at all.
