Euro 7 also aims to reduce brake dust pollution. It will become in effect on 31/12/2025 (so from 2026).
We'll have to see how much the targets will be lowered by then, but a brake dust capture filter would look something like this:

Euro 7 has gone

Our previous EV did 60,000 miles on one set of tyres and the brakes were '30% worn'. Good enough indicator for me!

once they've got us out of cars and off buses trains and bicycles, they'll get around to the horrors of shoe pollution.
laugh

They can tax the fk out of anyone that buys from Clarks first as they deserve it more than most.
What's wrong with Clarks?

Surely EVs don't put as much wear on brake pads, due to regenerative braking.
The huge weight increase over ICE cars will negate much if any benefit.
Tyres will also wear quicker and damage road surfaces to a greater extent.
Experience says you are wrong.

It hasn't gone. It's still there in all its glory and incompetence. Hopefully it'll be dumped but it certainly hasn't as of today.

Why would you say that?
Just giving you a heads up in case you wanted to stock up.
I rub my hands in glee for things like this.

Seems boring. What's the point of having big roads if you can't drive a massive vehicle?
New York city doesn't have big roads, that's the problem.
"Oversize assault cars", great description biggrin

Remove speed humps if you want to reduce brake dust from built up areas…
Perhaps when the speed limiters are turned on full time, they won't be needed.

CO2? Too bad. My carbon footprint is smaller than the world leaders and celebs telling us to stop.

Road fatalities? A price worth paying for the upsides.
So it's OK to kill a few thousand, or million so you can drive your car with fewer restrictions?
You need to seek professional help.

Regards how dangerous PM is for human health… how dangerous do you want it to be? There will be scores of scientists/activists ready to prove it’s very, very damaging as it’s for a good cause (reduced pollution) and because you’re going to have to pay them (which for a scientist isn’t that much).

But looking at how the battery materials are produced makes any tyre pollution fade into insignificance.
How’s that then?

How’s it worse than building an ice vehicle drivetrain?

How’s it worse than oil extraction and refining?

Don’t say lithium. There’s hardly and lithium used in the batteries, let alone the fabled lithium mined by children.

No. I haven’t got an EV.
I too am looking forward to an explanation.

Is regurgitating the Daily Mail a copyright infringement?

Or do you get a free pass if it a load of made-up crap?

Not clear which bit you refer to. CO2 - trivial reductions here don't matter. China and India continue building more power stations. Anyway CO2 gets a bad press. Don't forget the upsides. Better plant growth. Milder winters.

Road fatalities? It isn't me that decides road deaths are an acceptable compromise. It is society as a whole.
And as a USA resident I wouldn't be too quick raising the issue of road deaths. The USA has road death rates 3 times higher than the UK.

PS - I can''t be bothered looking for the stat but does the USA not have far higher CO2 output per capita than the UK as well?

I've been a lot happier since I switched off BBC Radio 4.

PM was much better when Eddie Mair was on there.

FWIW, our ev, a Zoe, was noticeably heavy on tyres but noticeably light on brakes. Hardly ever had to wash the wheels, brak dust was non existent after 000's miles! But for its size, speed and use, it did wear its tyres about 30% more than an "equivalent" care we had in the family.

The article states Euro 7 will come, but watered down.

This makes sense, as it will allow ULEZ zones to ban Euro 4 petrol and Euro 6 diesels in the future and promote the sale of new vehicles.

Definitely with you on the wheels and is one of the pleasures of EV ownership. It's been a bugbear on other cars trying to keep the wheels tip top.

Interesting with the tyres though. I cane my i3 everywhere but the rears still seem to last 18k. They'd probably last 20 if I drove more sedately. Either way, not much particulate matter.

Are you running eco tyres?

A friend of mine has a Tesla. Walking past it one day I noted how small his brake discs seemed to be. It was that the bare steel exposed by the pads was really small, the outer and inner of the disc was all corroded.

He said, ah, you've reminded me I need to do some hard braking. Apparently it's a 'thing' for Tesla's?

Brake pads used to be made of asbestos, imagine how much of that was in the air back in the day.

This is all a bit silly

Yep.

And what about those pesky aircraft when they land, and the trains, buses...what about the hedgehogs and rabbits?

Here we go again, "Oh the US has more fatalities and causes more pollution", to try and detract from the pollution and road deaths in the UK.
And show me any country that's saying "It's OK if xxxx number of people are killed by car drivers each year"
