RE: Renault Megane Monaco | Shed of the Week
Discussion
The Monaco version of a Renault is always the poshest, think there have been a few other Monaco editions. Renault 5 and possibly the 25, any others ?
Looks sort of ok, but the placement of the wheels in the body looks odd, big front overhang and none at the back.
I remember watching a tv programme and that had an Irish chap on who had built a “Leisure Club” under his house, sort of a concrete, unfinished playboy mansion grotto type deal, wonder if that’s the guy on the new who undermined his and his neighbours properties ? Anyone remember it or have any links to the news story ? This was an amateur efforts not like the ones nowadays where people in London carve out three story underground lairs and collapse next door.

Always thought it was a shame Renault didn’t make a road widebody version of these in tribute to the F2 car - in yellow or blue, of course, together with the Clio Williams tune of the F7R (which you could get in the range). Apparently phase 1 cars did get an optional bodykit. Not many 2.0 16v Coupes about now - would still be a fun thing.
Pretty sure this has 110bhp rather than 89. They dropped the 8v in 1999.

Yes there was a 21 as well. All three were metallic bronze with tan leather seats that looked like the’y’d been lifted from an executive airport longe in 1979. Always loved them! This blob, not so much but it’s ok.I remember the Monaco trim level back in the day ,the independent dealer that I worked for would always grab them if one popped up on any of the trade sites .
They were usually below average miles, above average condition and came with very good history. Yes they often came in "different" colour combinations. They always sold quickly.
The Renault range from this era were all very comfortable to drive which helped to put up with the creaks and rattling that was standard across the make ,the Monaco level with its improved sound deadening did muffle noises pretty well .
It wouldn't surprise me to see this one with some big alloys and dropped suspension in its future .

Had one and loved it, however that was a 1998 car back in 2006 and it took some work to find one with its rear arches in tact... This one might be the exception as by now most are rotten.
Drove well, handled okay, cruised well on motorway, cheap on insurance and fuel, sounded awesome with a performance back box.

"Shed challenges you to find another sentence that has well well in it like that"
My next door neighbour Arthur Well had his natural water source inspected after he had performed some routine annual maintenance.
"You've certainly looked after your well well Well!" said the inspector...

I remember being impressed with the 1.6 16V engine in this generation of Megane, keep it pinned and it really felt like it went for it at the top end.
If it's as good condition as it looks then seems reasonable, could get a good few years out of it for not too much money and half-decent to drive.
