Are the days of a Chimaera and Elise being the first thing you think of for a list like this now gone?
Can you get either for under £10k?
You can just about, but I'm assuming not in PH classifieds, which is the sole purpose of these articles.

I recommend an early 2.5 Boxster.

I’ve had an Elise, driven a Mk1 MX5 and an S2000 and the Boxster is my favourite. A lovely howl from the engine above 3k, short geared acceleration, dual row IMS, ULEZ compliant and cheap tax.

Be prepared for bills though. They love a CEL.

How to pick the worst convertibles for £10k should be the title.
Find 6 better for under £10k on the market now?
Ive literally put 10k limit and convertible into pistonheads. I would pick all the cars on the first page over all of these. Some are less than 5k. So challenge accepted and smashed out the park.
Show us the list then. Screenshot it if you like.

Ten grand for the 350Z Roadster seems expensive, my son picked a very tidy 2006 with similar miles up 5 grand last year, that will be available soon as my son is buying a house so is moving it on.

Based on looks and what a great drive they are, the SL would be my choice of that lot. Having said that, they are costly to run and sometimes tricky to repair. We had a 2006 SL350 for 18 months and it was lovely but I'd only own one if it could be garaged and used on nice days.

My money actually went on this for a quarter of the target price. Not as dynamic as some on the list but it's more fun than I expected.

Around another £1,500 would get you into a 370Z Roadster as well. The 370Z has a slightly more reliable roof, plus the interior is a bit better appointed as well. £1,500 is worth the extra just for the rev matching feature I reckon! driving

As above the SL350 seems a bit more practical than the 500. The Saab is a bit more old mans car ???

Damn, I knew I should have got my mk1 R Ltd listed last week! It'll (probably) go up for sale if anybody is looking for one. White, red leather, good nick.

Such a shame that SAAB are no more, well built cars and there is no denying that is a fantastic looking car!!

It is a big shame mate, they made some quite normal cars very interesting, plus they could make some nice looking machines too. For now I'll keep this one going. It's got nearly 130k on the clock, friend of mine (no doubt on here) has one with 100k more on it. It should keep going a while longer haha

Alfa Spider doesn't belong here. Having owned a Brera 2.2S for about 16 months the novelty of stunning looks soon wears off. You then realise what a slow, heavy, dead-feeling, un-sporty car it really is. And I'm a serial Alfa owner. So the Spider version will be the same mix even with a (non-Alfa Busso) V6 under its snout.

You're better-off to get the 916 version Spider with the 3.0 Busso V6 - GTV version is far superior than the Brera ie) a proper soulful Alfa, and you won't lose any money in it unlike this.
Not sure about that. I have a 2007 Brera, bought as an ex-demo after 4 weeks. 200k miles later, I remain in love with it. I have also owned a GTV 3.0 Lusso; however, both are soulful in their own way. My Brera has the 2.4 diesel 5 cylinder engine, and it warbles in a way that 5 cyl engines do. It's no Busso, but I can get 150 bottles of wine in the car (plus 2 pax) or two bikes; that was never the case with the GTV! So the Brera is really practical.

You're right in saying that the Brera is not sporty - but I've NEVER held on to a car this long; it still has soul in spades, and looks amazing. Same colour as the one in the ad; same teledial wheels too...

An NB for £10k? I'd want it to be supercharged for that money.

I like the Elan m100 but not with those miles.
An average of 4500 miles a year scares you? Tough crowd...

I've seen these with well over 200,000 on, still going strong.
Some materials / components deteriorate with age, and I wouldn't trust them, even if the mileage was minimal.

No MR2 MK3 on the list is very disappointing, specially when MX-5 MK2 suffers from the rust issue and MR2 is proper mid engine RWD.
My thoughts exactly. MR2 Roadsters are great little cars and I'd pick one over an equivalent MX-5 all day long.
