Wow that Dutch Spyder looks stunning in whatever Porsche colour it is. To me non Porsche owner.it looks aqua blue .

718 really is a good looking Porsche I can definitely see me owning a 4 cylinder sometime the 2.0 near enough 300 bhp is enough power for me .
Miami Blue is the official name for it. Should I ever buy a Boxster it would be my first choice.

Great cars, never understood the reaction of some on this forum to the engine, reality is more accessible power and torque earlier in the rev range make for a great overtaking machine. GPFs will mute the sound on anything but an F4 pre GPF actually sounds good, at least to my ear.

The Cayman I had before ths Boxster was Miami Blue also. Looks different shades in different lights too. Always getting complements, such a different colour. That said (and I am biased) you can't go wrong on any colour.

I went from a Boxster 981 GTS to a (Cayman) GTS 4.0 and the most noticeable difference is how much more tractable the engine is. Torque spread is much more friendly if you're like my Mrs and drive it like a nun. The 981 GTS always seemed to need a bit more revving out to make progress.

I appreciate people want to ring these engines out, but sometimes/most of the time that isn't practical. The new 4.0 is fabulous with a dual personality.

I also had the 718 Spyder for a while and the roof drove me nuts, but it was magnificent to drive albeit a little less practical.

I was going to buy a 718 Spyder, but decided on a 718 GTS 4.0 because of the Spyder's fiddly roof. I have no regrets. The Spyder roof would have drove me mad.

I do like the shape of the roof, but not the hassle, also when roof is up you can't get in the trunk... cause it seems that those 2 flaps are part of that when connected..

I still like it, but a say gts 4.0 roof is way way easier.

also I wonder, if you let those 2 flaps open, so not connected and leave it that way, but the roof closed, can you then drive top speed? are those flaps looki things ore real spanners, or can you drive without them connected? just a thought, since I do not own one but saw a video were a guy showed the hassle and when connected you can use the trunk, sounds strange...

Interesting how colours look so different in contrasting lights. Miami in normal light has an underlying greenish tint yet in your picture in sun it appears very similar to Lotus Seneca blue pearl which in reality is a totally different colour.

There's simply no denying the roof is on a Spyder is an ar5e.
Extra time/effort to take down/put up
Restrictive to rear boot when up

redeeming features? I mean it looks nice? and it weighs less.
It ONLY works for me because
a) As a canvas roof I like the look of it when up
b) With the roof down it's just stellar looks wise
c) It's my weekend toy and the roof is always down, so I don't have to engage with it on a daily basis.

By any other measure if you're planning on using the car more often than once/twice a week the GTS wins hands down really...

I've had my 718 Boxster S PDK for just over a year, bought after a driving experience at Porsche Silverstone in a Cayman S. It's very practical, loads of luggage space, reasonably economical, well sized and fantastic to drive. The 4 cylinder engine has a charm of it's own - don't believe everything you read online, just go out and have fun.

I was lucky enough to get use of a GTS in 2020 for the weekend and did a chunk of the NC500 in it. I went in quite cynical but it was an absolutely fantastic car. The gearbox was insanely quick, it was comfortable. It was definitely quikc enough though not stupidly slow. The car itself felt like it could handle an extra 100hp without any stress.

When funds allow, I'd quite happily have any spec of the 718.

A very interesting thread and good timing as I am considering swapping my 2 year old GR Yaris for a nice spec 2.0 PDK Boxster as my daily driver.

It’s a 2018 car with 25,000 on the clock.

Have people had any reliability or defects show themselves with the 4 cylinder 718s?

Thanks
Ed
