I have to admit that the Ferrari range seems to confuse me... what is the difference meant to be between the SF90 and the F8?
SF90 just seems crazily expensive for no reason other that it needs to be more than the F8, then the F8 seems to offer the same as the 296.
The 296 does seem like the best buy of the range...
The SF90 is a plugin hybrid with 3 electric motors and a combined peak output of 1000PS whereas the F8 Tributo is a pure ICE powered car based on the earlier 488 and has a peak output in the mid 700s PS. The 296 only has the single electric motor (so isn't 4wd) and sits in the middle power wise.SF90 just seems crazily expensive for no reason other that it needs to be more than the F8, then the F8 seems to offer the same as the 296.

Its all got a bit silly really, getting on for the power of 2 F40's in what is the "cooking" Ferrari, as cooking as Ferraris ever get but its part of the 324, 348, 355, 360 etc lineage isnt it
No, not really. It's effectively the modern representation of the 246 GTB isn't it? A new standalone model.
The current 328/348/etc car is the F8.

As an aside, 360s look remarkably good value at the moment...

"Junior" Ferraris used to be 911 Turbo money and generally had performance that fell between a standard 911 and a Turbo - or do a 1997 road test tells me. They "broke free" in the 2000s and romped upmarket, and I suspect this was a deliberate strategy of differentiation.
Remember that at the time, Ferrari owned Maserati and would have been making the 3200/4200/Gransport which was more directly aimed at the 911. That covered that end of the market whilst allowing Ferrari to extend upwards.I don't believe the 38 hp gain. And modifying a new Ferrari with an exhaust and wheels seems very stupid.
To see how a new exhaust might cause a problem, Emelia Hartford who has some good videos, just tried to put a self designed one in a new 296 GTB and found the car wouldn't even go into a gear - computer did like it. That video is on YouTube.

Novitec have a close relationship with Ferrari, this isn't the same as someone welding a drainpipe on To see how a new exhaust might cause a problem, Emelia Hartford who has some good videos, just tried to put a self designed one in a new 296 GTB and found the car wouldn't even go into a gear - computer did like it. The F8 is not a current model and hasn't been available to order since March '22. It has been superseded by the 296 GTB/GTS
Ah, didn't realise it had been discontinued. I guess they've changed tack then and this is the replacement as you say. They hyped it up as the baby/Dino of the modern Ferrari range but then gave it all that power. It's still a six cylinder though so if they do another mid-engined V8 model I'd expect that would be the proper replacement for the F8.

Are there any tuners who make cars actually look better than the original?
Every week there seems to be another disfigured offering from Novitec, Manhard, Techart or somesuch
Yes. I think this looks better than a standard 296. The wheels are much nicer than the OEM ones.Every week there seems to be another disfigured offering from Novitec, Manhard, Techart or somesuch
As others have said, RUF and plenty of others have done some nice work over the years too.

same, I think this is actually the first 296 I've liked the look ofAs others have said, RUF and plenty of others have done some nice work over the years too.
regarding power it's going to be endless and I think 2000hp will be common in 10-15 years time - no one cares about weight or driving experience anymore (or at least most buyers don't) so it'll just continue endlessly
