Well, actually, no. Although you would think that. Despite all the Teslas/Prius you see on the road, I think the most popular vehicle in the US is still the massive V8 trucks, often twin axle.

I don't think the Americans are about to give up their ICEs just yet, if ever.

If EVs are the future, they certainly aren't in the USA, IMHO.

Then get yourself some earplugs mate. Have you ever considered that some may also find the noise coming from mouth offensive?
Or a noisey vag, as per the OP laugh

I do wish folks wouldn't refer to vw Audi group as vag.

I live next to a main road. Apart from the odd modified hatchback or something fruity, some of the noisiest cars that go past are EVs, as the weight of the things means they make loads more road noise and thump across potholes/manhole covers etc.

So in the interest of not imposing noise on those who don't want it - any chance EV drivers could buy little superminis to stop inflicting their noise on me? Ta.

More seriously, this looks absolutely fking epic. I've always loved the Challenger since a misspent youth watching Vanishing Point with some herbal refreshments and this looks the ultimate.

The fact it winds up Tesla Drivers is just the icing on the cake hehe

There's a lot more lifestyle vehicles in the USA - most common thing a Wrangler is cross shopped with in USA is a boat.

Unlike in the UK, USA citizens have tons of public land they can basically do what they want on. Hunting, shooting, fishing, and that requires lifestyle vehicles. I have a big RAM truck in the UK here and its so convenient, in the USA it must be more so. We go a lot to the States and people go out dune running in buggies with buggies and bikes in the back of their truck, they tow massive campers and trailers and do big road trips for their holidays, they'll drive hundreds of miles a day - e.g. drive 400 miles to Vegas from LA for a weekend and back. I have a cousin who camps in the dessert with his friends and just drives his truck (and theirs) out to Joshua Tree in the middle of nowhere. They'll bring food, drinks, rifles etc and live free (unlike the UK lol where 55% of the economy is taken in tax and you have noise cameras).

The trucks are hugely comfy - mine is 50% bigger inside than a 5 series. It's by far the most comfy vehicle I've ever driven. The back seats are as big, if not bigger, passenger wise as a Merc S Class... but you've got a massive truck bed too, and the tank is a minimum of 90 litres (400-500 miles), and you can get an optional 130 litre tank (600+ miles).

They're rated to tow 5 tons in the USA.

EV's can't do the above presently. You'd need a 200kw battery.

I live in the country: not one single sheep, cow or horse has EVER complained about the noise of my vehicles in the 15 years I've been here.

I'm guessing they must all be deaf.

Or maybe they just have a life.

Only Teslas are only 0-10% heavier than equivalent ICE cars and run EV specific tyres that generate less road noise.

Road noise is mostly a product of the surface quality rather than the mass of the vehicle.

EV's can't do the above presently. You'd need a 200kw battery.
This has been done to death but:

1: US preference for trucks is less than a generation old
2: It is tied to US tariffs on imported vans and loop holes for "light duty trucks" from emissions regs which pushed US manufacturers into a segment more protected from overseas competition
3: Most trucks never tow a thing
4: Most truck owners never take them off road
5: Given that 35% of them rarely use the bed it's safe to say the most things carried in a truck would also probably fit in more sensible vehicles.

This is an editorialized summary of an Edwards questionnaire, which is the data source for the statements above. That also a self reported survey so real usage of trucks for towing and off roading is probably even lower!

I drove a V6 Hertz rental about 800 miles through Florida in November. I took it for a slowish couple of laps around Sebring, a bit wallowy and the 245 section rear tyres a bit slidy. I thought it was perfectly ok, damned with faint praise maybe, but I'd not turn my nose up if offered one. The are 3/4 visibility was a shocker though.

Drove a rental V8 Challenger from Detroit to Chicago and down to Huntsville: lovely thing! But the rear 3/4 vision (headrest/seat back/ C pillar) made it utterly impractical / dangerous in built-up areas. (My 440 cu.in. Satellite Sebring Plus was considerably more practical, even at 25 years older.)

I love muscle cars and the V8 rumble they make. I would love a Challenger and 400bhp would be enough for me. This is a fine send off, quite ludicrous thumbup

Pistonheads has come a long way. I'm sad to hear so many on this particular thread rubbishing this car and comparing to a Tesla. It kind of misses the point.

Well I'm glad they both exist and that we have choices but I wouldn't want to deny someone just because they don't like the same flavour as me.
