Had 160k mile 997 GT3. Seemed to manage to generate a £1500 bill every year over and above £800 a year for servicing.

That's not including tyres, fuel.
Hmmm...they're near the top of my wish-list, but the running costs worry me a little.

Me: 1996 NSX, now on nearly 130k.
Spent maybe £10-12k over 13+ years on routine servicing and non-routine servicing / replacements, including 2 engine-out services (1 a nearly full refresh), clutch, dampers all round, new radiator, upgraded exhaust manifolds and refurbishing other stuff (calipers, driveshafts, CCU, amps).
Add-in tyres and it's still no more than £1k a year, and I've probably over-serviced her. Know owners of lower-mileage, less-used cars that have averaged more like £500/year.

(Helps that the basic annual service at local Honda dealer is £150-300 plus me supplying the oil. Not entirely sure why a GT3 is 3x the price on average...)

It's simple to.explain why the GT3 is 3 x the cost, Porsche Tax is a real thing, I didn't realise before I bought my Boxster but all the parts are overly expensive, I've also found usual places like Euro Car Parts often don't sell parts for a Porsche so end up paying main dealer prices.

I can imagine that on top of that there's another premium for anything connected to GT Porsche cars and it's easy to see how running costs quickly rack up

thumbup

So as an affordable weekend roadster for the missus, an S2000 would actually be a better bet than the Boxster? Given the recent parity in purchase prices I was starting to consider 987.2-S's or a leggy 981.

I seem to be collecting cars I wanted in my teens & 20s, therefore my experience covers...

2002 Mk1 TT 225
1999 Mk2 MX5
1985 Mk1 MR2

All seem to average well under £500/year excl tax/fuel, but very dependent on condition (managed to get good ones) and like any car can through up the odd unexpected (or expected) expense - things like cambelt etc Some cars the bits can be quite pricey (Audi I'm looking at you) where others can be very cheap, and if you fancy a bit of tinkering (I'm no mechanic but do the odd bit) can save a bit and find it quite satisfying working on them, YouTube is brilliant for how to vids - like lego but with more swearing....

Owned 11 years, was only daily for first 6 years. Total spend minus fuel/tax/ins (but including tyres) about 15k. But that includes some non essential bits plus some body/paint.

However it’s worth 7k more than I paid for it now, so that’s 8k for 11 years. Only cost me about £60/month if you include increase in value if I sold it. £110/month if value was the same.
