That brown 911 is nearly seven times more !

Glad there is still something special for mere mortals to aspire to.

I suppose that TVR is more of a British thing, Porsche is more global in its appeal. TVR's seem, in a lot of cases still pretty reasonable price wise, 35 grand for this is at the top end of Rover engined TVR pricing but doesn't seem over ambitious given the mileage, condition and sympathetic, sensible modifications.

And I suppose you could buy a cheap one, then it needs a fortune spending and you end up 30 plus grand in anyway after a couple of years.

What a shame he only got to use it for 30,000 miles - that's about a thousand miles pa.

Looks great and will sell quick I reckon. Had a Chim 500 so these are a blast !!

Money shot

Just a gorgeous, simple design (OK, safety regs would mean this couldn't be built today... ). Just delicious

That is lovely! And a one owner car too. I can’t fault that at all.
Does seem remarkable value for money in these crazy times.
then you'd have fallen head over heels for my 28k miler I sold two years back for £21k :-) They can be had for sensible money as they are quite a hard sell as it's a very specific market. I've sold a lot of cars and my Griff took more time and haggling down than any other. SHe was my most favourite car ever until I replaced her with something with ten cylinders.

Question to owners how quick are they, I recall at the time 0 to 60 4.7 seconds (that seemed super car fast at the time) and 167 so faster than any BMW or Mercedes at the time

I'm very interested to know exactly how these drive. I had 2 wedges, a 400se and a 450se, both good examples but as much as I loved the sound and the seat of your pants driving the body felt it was shaking and wobbling on top of that tubular frame.

Are these a lot better? Look fantastic obvs.

I've got a Performance Car video somewhere where John Barker absolutely boots it in one off the line(the 500). It looked like great fun and it looked quick too, these would have been fast cars in their day for sure I reckon(especially the 500 version). Much want from me. driving

Not sure about the 0-60 time but didn’t TVR overstate the bhp figures?
Iirc when Clarkson used a Cerbera to blow all sorts of exotics into the weeds on a runway, there was a suggestion that the engine had been (ahem) ‘massaged’ by TVR
This Griff is a thing of beauty, and if I had the readies the advert would say ‘sold’ already.
Out of interest, as it’s a ‘non-pas’ car, could an electric PAS system be fitted retroactively?

Agree. You'd definitely have a massive smile on your face when you open the garage door and see that looking back at you for sure!

The only car that brought tears to my eyes when I sold it last year. Simply fabulous and grin inducing like no other.

I think prices are held back by the misconception that they are unreliable. Ok not good build quality when new, but as a classic weekend proposition they don't let you down unless neglected.

I think that car had an engine out of a tuscun race car so 5.0 ltr but yeah I recall it wasted a 911 turbo and a Vantage v600

That video always made me feel good regardless when I had my Cerbera 4.5 though! biggrin

It helped to make me feel like a had a quick car at the time in fairness. driving

The reality is that TVRs never really have anywhere near the bhp/torque figures or the performance figures that they state from the factory sadly. They still sound fast at least though...so beggars can't be choosers!

I have had two Chimeara's and absolutely loved them and the Griff!

Bigger boot swayed me on the Chim, but think they are both fantastic cars

Had a sports exhaust on my 500 and just giggled like a school boy every time i started it... it sounded so good

Would have another in a heart beat...

500 was advertised as 340bhp, in reality you'd be lucky to get 270-280 IIRC but they weigh NOTHING so yes they're silly quick, plus there's loads of low down torque from the "1950's Buick" engine. It's the chassis that holds them back. My 4 litre got up to 235 bhp with an Emerald and ACT inlet/exhaust and that was quite enough for the chassis!

The Griffs & Chimaeras have much better rear suspension due to them being wishbones all round. Having had a wedge before my Griff, the latter fibreglass feels a lot lighter & it feels like TVR had got the hang a bit more of how to build with it. The chassis design is evolved from the wedges too. However, there is some scuttle shake with the roof down.

Lovely but would change those awful wing mirrors. Never liked them on the XJ220 and 90s Astons

Almost perfect - I'd just prefer mine with a turned aluminium dash.

When these were launched, I had a mk3 Cavalier 1.6L company car. The Griffith shared its rear lights and column stalks. Did any of its 'coolness' transfer back to the Cav? I liked to think so... biglaugh

Saw a turquoise one with the original BBS wheels on the M4 last summer. Chap had the roof down too and it looked and sounded absolutely glorious.
