Worked at BMW prototype under Max Reisböck in 86 as an apprentice before uni, was a seriously funny guy with loads of car knowledge.
Was like a kid in the candy store for me then, great times!
Wow, good claim to fame. I love these cars so if you have any insider tittle tattle I’d be very interested in hearing more. Was like a kid in the candy store for me then, great times!
On that subject, whilst MR did build the 5-door estate, both he and the BMW Vorstand were well aware that in 1984 the Dutch firm Luchjenbroers had produced a number of E30 shooting brakes (and rather funky they were, too).
Owned a couple, 320 & 325, both two door. On reflection they we're o.k. but overrated with the exception of the six pot and nicely designed dash.
Moved on to E34's both 525's, far better cars in just about everyway.
Still, this Touring would make a great project car, I could see myself spending ten or fifteen grand on it no bother while getting my own hands dirty too. First port of call, if it's a keeper is to make sure the bodywork is tip top and go from there.
P.s. Good luck to the new owner.

The E30 Touring is the only car in which I lost control through aquaplaning. A big front end impact (enough to damage the engine block) but i stepped out unhurt. So maybe it wouldn't get a good NCAP rating in 2023, it wasn't a death trap.
Every now and then I show my kids all the roundabouts I’ve spun e30’s on. Used to be that if it rained you’d take care. Nowadays if it rains you can break traction nicely at sensible speeds in newer models. Love e30’s this and with a manual would be sweet. Crash em front end first and the viscous fan assembly gets shoved through the block hence the knackered lump. I bet the rear axle has dropped with worn bushes, the bottom of the A pillars are mostly tin worm. Wouldn’t mind getting the front wings next to the sills are ripe too. But the price is very keen! I’d love it.

One of the best looking cars ever made. Miss mine, but just don’t think I’d use it if I still had it.
Agreed.A set of BBS wheels would set that off a treat.
Not a bad price - less than expected. If that was a Ford of the same era I'd expect a '1' or even a '2' infront of that asking price.
I purchased one just like that from a PHer who mentioned owning it in passing in the comments. I believe we settled on £880. To date it’s the best car I’ve owned, clean with 80k miles under its belt and definitely the best purchase financially speaking.
I now have an E46 330i Touring manual but I’d swap it for a E30 325i in a heartbeat, touring or cabriolet.

I bought a 325 convertible about 15 years back, it was a lovely thing to drive round in but rust was starting to come through in a few places. I sold it as I had also bought an MX 5 mk1. I made the decision to sell one of them, and the BMW went as it was the one that I trusted least to let me down…..although it never had.
Always liked the look of these. Standard spec as no SE version offered on the touring iirc. See link below to original spec and pricing. Easy to forget the lengthy options list of BMW’s from this era.

Any excuse to post my old E30
Ordered by John Clarke BMW Aberdeen as a 325i in factory special Alpina Blue, then sent straight to Sytner Nottingham for conversion to C2.5 spec. Alpina cams, ecu, bodykit, etc. meant 190bhp so it moved along nicely. I couldn’t source an original replacement Alpina exhaust (I never did find out who they used to make them, some suggestion of Jetex), so I went with a SuperSprint system which sounded lovely
It really was a special car to drive. Never forget cruising down through France on a balmy July morning, sunroof open and that straight six purring along. It didn’t matter that a 320d would leave it for dead, that was bliss!

My brother maybe 90/91 ish bought a 2 or 3 years old E reg 325i also in white, think that was a period in time when white wasn't really popular , It was also crap spec , electric sunroof but windy windows.
He loved it he actually thought it was decent on Petrol compared to the C reg Monza GSE which he had until the 325i .
After a couple of years of problem free motoring he sold it and bought a G reg Toyota Supra .
