New Lancia Concept pays homage to Stratos

Lancia wants to a be a player in the new premium EV market - but it knows which way its bread is buttered

Given the reveal of an actual sculpture - the Pu+Ra Zero was described as a ‘three-dimensional manifesto’ - garnered more than 100 comments, it’s fair to say there’s still a lot of Lancia love on PH. Even without a good one having been sold here for almost 30 years. Now there’s an actual car coming, the sky’s surely the limit…

Calling its upcoming concept nothing more exciting than, um, Concept, seems like a move designed to cause intrigue among enthusiasts. To be revealed next month, it’s an electric car (of course) which is said to further evolve the design themes seen on the magic carpet/UFO Pu+Ra Zero. “The Lancia Concept is the brand manifesto for the next ten years” said CEO Luca Napolitano, so expect to see plenty of those Stratos-style rear lights in future.

Lancia is also keen to point out the horizontal lines on the rear deck, said to evoke the Beta HPE - well done if you spotted that. Apparently, the new look ‘recreates a home feeling mood like the one of the cosy atmospheres of Italian houses, now further amplified by the large overall window space.’ Right. Seems that light and glass will be especially important to the Concept, as it’s also fitted with a circular roof; we’ll have to wait to see that in full, but Lancia promises a panoramic view. Let’s hope it comes out much more Stratos (with its amazing wraparound windscreen) than bubble car.

Lancia is remaining pretty tight-lipped about any further Concept details for now, instead offering up the sustainability and electrification buzzwords for its new era - but there’s not long to wait anyway. After decades without an even vaguely interesting Lancia, this new Concept - one that’s already being mooted as a new Stratos in some quarters - will be revealed on April 15th, or little more than a fortnight from now. For all of the long-suffering Lancia fans out there, simply that confirmation must be some good news.

Rather than buttering bread be better to be thinking of rust proofing steel.

If only they could show us a little less of it.

Anyhow, whilst we wait for the true reveal, here's the 2010 PH article on the "New Lancia Stratos".

Can't wait for it to be a "stunning" new EV-SUV-Coupe like the new Ford Capri which was just announced.

It's almost like the only people who can afford these new EVs are people who are old enough to fondly remember the cars which initially bore the nameplate.

Whatever it is I'm sure it will be disappointing.

Has anyone noticed that every brand wants to be a player in the new EV market!!!

It’s almost as if they dont have a fking choice by law. It also implies that they haven’t been trying in the ICE market for the last 30 years. laugh

All the struggling brands seem to be desperately trying to make out like they are going to drastically transform with the advent of the EV generation. Most of them will probably fail.

Just my guess but if have been making dull rubbish to drive ICE cars it unlikely they will find their mojo with a whole new massively expensive technology.

There is no chance any modern car from a major manufacturing group gets anywhere near capturing the spirit or looks of a true 70s homologation special. They really should just give us a more accurate representation of what they will really build, and give us a large electric saloon, make it look fabulous, and bring back the Flaminia name.

Show us a fking picture of it then, Lancia. No one is on the edge of their seating waiting on this thing that you, ultimately, will not produce.

I'm so, so sick of marketing BS like this.

YOU ARE A CAR MANUFACTURER - SHOW PEOPLE WHAT YOU HAVE.

YOU ARE NOT AN ART HOUSE.

You haven’t been around the Italian car industry much have you?
Art houses on wheels is pretty much their default position…

Dammit Mercedes-Benz, you used to make cars that looked like this!

Now just do that for the next S-class or I'm off!

It must cheap to produce all these new EV's of every shape and style.
As for this Lancia that we can't see, we're all probably just as well off.

No proper pictures ,no interest .
It will probably be about a week until they show us the whole thing ,just as long as they don't do it tomorrow ,April 1st and no one will believe that whatever they show is the real thing .

I'm starting to think that companies doing 'teaser' press releases with nonsense like 'home feeling mood' and 'design manifesto' deserve to be pilloried.

I really couldnt care less about concept cars, unless they actually intend to build something like it.

Although a private venture, didn't they make a few in the end?
