This evening I was following a Seat SUV car with a driver who was evidently really struggling to negotiate a couple of 6'6 width restrictions either end of a tight-ish bridge.

They then proceeded to brake hard for every minor ripple and, inexplicably, a road on the right. The road was then unlit. They almost came to a halt for a bend, then proceeded at around 15-20mph.

I was relieved tobe able to overtake them when appropriate to do so.

...20 seconds later, I found myself following another one. A Prius this time.

Almost stopping for bends, indicating for bends in the road, coming to standstill when faced with oncoming vehicles...worst of all, cutting bends to almost clip the offside apex on two right-handers (that can take two vehicles if given space) at which they didn't slow down as much. I have experienced this happening to me when driving the opposite way.

There were no opportunities to overtake.

Oddly, both drivers behaved very similarly. The first one must have continued to g o very slowly as they did not catch me up when following the second one.

What was going on?
Believe me, these morons have spread out across the country. Bends easily negotiable in a bog stand small salon at 60mph, they find a need for brakes when traveling at half that velocity.

Usually the same morons who stop 4-5 ft away from a junction they want to pull out of then lean forward over the steering wheel to see if anything is approaching rolleyes

Maybe you could have posted this on the thread on Speed, Plod and the Law about eye tests!
Tbh I read that thread and as posted was staggered by the number of posters who openly stated that they never used high beam and considered just dipped even on unlit roads was sufficient.

The decline of driving standards in this country just baffles me... Coming home from the Classic Motorshow yesterday I came across a motorhome on the M6... doing 65mph... in lane 3... with nothing in 1 or 2...

WTAF. What were they thinking, actually I suspect that is the problem, they are not thinking.

I have noticed this more and more, especially when out walking. That people stop way back from a junction, why is this?

They can't judge where the front of their car is? I think that has got harder with modern cars, although it shouldn't be beyond anyone vaguely competent.

These same people are the people you see who cant walk without bumping into eachtother, probably the same people who stand blocking isles in supermarkets and will be the same people who ask what time ASDA is open on the local Facebook group.

Your parking sensors don't beep at junctions so how do they know where the front of their car is.

I think the aids that people have had dumbed their ability. I admit I can't parallel park now without them... Bit of laziness

Also I think people drive slower for economy but most importantly so they can keep both eyes on their phone.

Good point. My last car came with a reversing camera; when I told people I had chosen not to also have bleeping sensors they were surprised!

In case the brakes fail at the last moment.

Because they think as soon as the line disappears from view that is where the front of the vehicle is.

Arguably this inability to judge where they are encourages corner cutting turning right into junctions, well that and dozy idleness.

On the M25 this evening a Nissan Qashqai travelling at 43mph in lane 2 with only their sidelights on! I find myself looking at the driver to see if they look as stupid as their driving!

Yesterday, following a Zafira: indicated 25 in a 30, 35 in a 40, 12-15 in a 20, 30-50 in national speed limit areas.

There were the occasional opportunities to pass, however areas were narrow and I had the wife with me and any overtake I perform is met with shrieking and subsequent moaning about my "dangerous driving"!

That is probably the truth. Driving along with their eyes on their phone instead of on the road, following the satnav so they have to slow down at every bend in the road because they're not sure if they should go round it because the satnav isn't telling them to.

I assumed that the driver that I followed was indicating around bends was trying to follow a satnav, rather than observing the actual road in front of them.
