RE: New Manhart MH3 Touring surpasses 850hp

I like the idea but think things have got a bit daft, a normal M3 is a very fast car, I see a green one locally who always likes a blast and it walks away from me pretty easily, adding another 300 bhp as well ?
I think we have spent so long demanding more and more power we have forgotten when to stop, also partly down to having to have the fastest and most powerful but that is just so many degrees of overkill.
I think when younger we just want more and more, as you age you still want plenty but realise you perhaps dont need 850 bhp, my car is light with 300 bhp and it pulls pretty hard, I can get myself in very hot water, very quickly but can give it all it has for a little bit. On the road I bet this would feel like having The Who's (ask you dad) PA system in your bedsit, and not being able to turn it up.
Sometimes less is more and just because you can, doesn't mean you should, still,, wouldn't mind a go in it to test my thinking.
I’m with you, my 3 series has about 470 hp, it is more than it needs, it’s nigh on impossible to use that amount for more than 2 or 3 seconds, the last thing that I think it requires is more power.I think we have spent so long demanding more and more power we have forgotten when to stop, also partly down to having to have the fastest and most powerful but that is just so many degrees of overkill.

Anyway, I hope that whoever buys one of these has a blast

I've definitely tried to chase performance as you say over the years. I remember when I got the Cerbera, it was pretty much the fastest thing I could afford at the time(0 to 60 in 3.9 seconds allegedly). Whereas now my F82 M4(0 to 60 in 4.1 seconds) is more than likely a bit quicker in the real world, even though it is over 400kgs heavier for example. I think we have spent so long demanding more and more power we have forgotten when to stop, also partly down to having to have the fastest and most powerful but that is just so many degrees of overkill.

Money no object I would love this(well the G82 M4 Coupe running the same power anyway), and I guess that we have playing Top Trumps as kids to blame for it all really. It is mad what power/torque you can get from a relatively small engine and turbos nowadays I reckon.

855bhp?! No child nor dog wants to be carted around in such machinery. Utterly pointless. Stupidity springs to mind.
You don't have to drive like a knob with kids/dogs on board you know that right?Plus how do all those school run Teslas manage?

Except that we know that like a Tesla, or any car with straight line speed, any time there is a bit of straight road as much power as can be deployed will be deployed. It’s an immutable law of nature when drivers of this type of car are concerned. If it pops and bangs too, even better. I doubt these are bought for their handling. Your vehicle must turn heads. Any attention is good attention. The horrid irony for me I really like the look of this. Plus how do all those school run Teslas manage?
I look forward to a 1200bhp version, quad turbo’s / quad supercharged.
I was around 22 when the first 3dr Cosworth came out and I was running a Sierra 2.8 XR4x4 with 150bhp.
To see a Sierra shoving out 204bhp was unbelievable at the time, especially for what it cost.
And yet when I bought a 3dr, it was more than fast enough, and yes there were no or few speed cameras and the density of traffic on the roads was less.
The parallels, despite the massive disparity between the Sierras and the M3 power outputs are apparent to me, and whilst I’m glad that we still have companies making insane machines like this rather than become just another hyper-Duracell powered white good, I can’t see how you would regularly deploy such power.
Or at least if you did, the law of diminishing returns would apply and you would get to use all that extra power for less time.

I remember when you could sit in the outside lane at 100mph on the motorway for ages(plus almost everyone seemed to be doing around 90mph anyway). Plus you'd also get opportunities to max your car right out should you wish as well. You have very little chance of doing that nowadays in comparison as you say. I must say, this is more pleasing on the eye than some of their earlier offerings. It does not look too much more modified than an Alpina. I like the wheels on this and their colour. Likely it is a bit too OTT for many folks, but we should be glad such things exist and I hope enough people buy them to make it worthwhile.

we aren't anywhere near the level of too much power yet as people will still only buy the new model if it has more power
Not sure what we need to get to for it to be too much ?100 mph in this, in like 5 and a bit seconds from standstill ?
I think that may be a little too much for me personally, zero to ban territory in 5 seconds, its just at odds with the environment its used in, the scale of the performance is way bigger than the roads we have to use it on.
