Tesla isn't going anywhere and this is genesis.

Will probably be worth a million quid in 20 years time.
I don’t know about a million quid but genesis isn’t wide of the mark I don’t think: to be bought more for what it represents than for what it is.

I wouldn't buy/drive anything associated with that prick. Burn it.

I suspect the crypto brigade probably get quite excited about these, hence the price.

So EVs do actually appreciate in value then?

I never thought I'd see the day to be honest, because generally they're closely associated with heavy depreciation from what I read/hear to be fair.
That does seem to be a ridiculously inflated price (at least to me), so there’s still a reasonable chance that depreciation will come calling smile

No need to worry about batteries as they're only 18650 Li batteries - can be bought in many places online. Might need a few though...

No supercharging I think - or at least I had heard that it has a much slower maximum charge rate - but could be wrong...

I don't think they support DC charging at all, do they?

You know it is a Lotus Elise right?…..
Yes. But the Evora wasn't on the Elise platform - I was just commenting how very, very similar they were from the side.

What is surprising is how long it's taken for anyone else to follow with another EV roadster.

Is the MG the only other? Did take ages but I guess limited (even less than a normal EV!) appeal to have an electric roadster?

For me a roadster will always be about the noise and weight.

I think there's a Maserati too.

Plus things like the MINI Roadster, and Fiat 500e Roadster if they count.

You chaps tend to think as car enthusiasts, cost vs value but this is the first effort built what is a massive global brand.

It’s more akin to an Apple 1 computer in terms of a proposition, it’s likely not being bought as a car but as a piece of Tesla/EV/tech history, there were only 2000 odd built.

I would rather have an Elise or Exige but there is definitely a following for these.

^Exactly this^

At that price there's plenty that would appeal more than this. You could get a new Macan EV and a Taycan that's a few years old for the price of this. Collectors or wealthy Tesla fans will buy it for what it represents rather than what it actually is.

If I had 150k to spend on one car this certainly would not be it, however I think who ever buys this or currently owns it has plenty of other cool and exotic cars in their possession.

I would however certainly consider buying it if I had plenty of money (which i dont) and wanted to buy a few cool cars... a bit like an Etype, I like them and appreciate them, but wouldn't buy one as my only 'toy' but I would if I was building a collection.

I think its pretty cool, and I can see it becoming a bit of a collectors piece in years to come, a bit like some classics are now and the value only going up. Batteries may need upgrading/replacing in the future but I see that a bit like an engine rebuild on an old classic ICE car now. Classics are rarely maintainence free, this will be no different.

As for comments about Elon Musk, he's hardly going to be in the passengers seat...

Why all the hate for Elon, I think he's great (the more he pisses off the liberal left the better). smile

Back to the car, not an EV fan, but as said above this is Genesis. Seems to be massively overpriced, but it's worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

One of the reason could be that he’s a far right conspiracy theorist who, through misinformation, has managed to get a fascist with a criminal conviction into the White House?
