RE: Ultima smashes world record - again
Discussion
I find it good news when a car like the Ultima demonstrates this sort of performance. Puts the other manufacturers on notice and hopefully enables all to improve and advance.
Wish there were more Ultima's in Canada. I would like to inspect one before comitting to a build.
That said I have to say the styling leaves me a bit cool. I'd like something like the stillborn Farboud GT1 body on a Ultima chassis. Have others done any restyling of the shell? When I Google for images of Ultima's they all look mostly stock.
Anyway, just my thoughts from Western Canada...
Cheers all...

Hi Trevor, know what you mean about the Ultima shape. The reason that I bought an Ultima was because it was the only package available to house my 434SBC although the shape has grown on me over the last few years.I have had the front end heavily modified with a massive radiator inlet, louvres in the top of the wings and re-shaped headlamps. There is a large splitter on the front with opened out wheel arch vents on the side pods and splitters all the way down each side. This is as far as I have gotten at the moment but am working my way towards the rear with an idea to make the rear inlets look a bit like shark gills, revised rear lights, louvres ontop of the rear wheel housings with more/larger cooling vents in the rear clip and to re-work the air intake/snorkle.All very personal mods I know but although on their own only minor alterations, together they will make a huge difference. If you are interested,I will send you some snaps,Wayne.
I'm pretty sure there is a carbon fibre Farboud look body you can get for an Ultima... one of the guys I went to LeMans with was telling me about it!
PS. Trevor if you're thinking of spending that ammount of money why not pop over to the UK to see some built ones I'm sure lots of the guys would even arrange a meet if you were going to come over - surely it'd be worth the airfair?

Stig, is that a Porsche gear knob you're using?
Yeah, I'm geek
Yeah, I'm geek
It's a Porsche Getrag gearbox, hence the Porsche gear knob. Came as part of the package. I'm sure Stig will change it for a neon skull design next time he's passing halfords

Ooh - you slipped that one in beneath my radar!
You're in for such a kicking next time I see you
Dom is due to finish his Ultima in time for the Olympics (the ones after London)
Autocar said they repeatedly invited the Ultima, but the company wanted no part in their test. They continue, on a good surface, it would have been close between the Ultima and Veyron.

So Ultima will only do these tests under their own conditions? Very suspicious...

Maybe it's something to do with Autocar insisting on their guys driving (if they do)? Ultima always use Richard from Ultima; he seems to get the best out of it plus he can be sympathetic enough to their precious demonstrator. Having a journalist blow up their pricey engine with a mis-shift is something a big manufacturer could handle, but not a smaller one (besides the Veyron is all paddles!).
Datron have verified the Ultima's performance 0-100-0; that's good enough for me - although a direct comparison would have been nice.

If you did not know a Ph'er witnessed all but the last WR me ... all previous WR used my car and any damage would have been paid for by the factory, so Richard was very carefull.. Previous ULtima returned by some Journalist have required a major rebuild having been thrashed to death

I think I am not alone when I say: "PICS PLEASE!!!"
The Ultima shape and styling leave a lot to be desired imho. not going to go as far as to say ugly...

Bubble windscreen and forward drivers position looks luverly to me. Form followes function . . . imo what the Ultima lacks is aggresiveness and drama. It's a kind looking car . . . like the Dino.
