Hi guys. This is a massive long shot but I'm looking for my dads old Jag. He sold it in 1999, when we moved abroad. I've recently moved back to the uk and I'd love to find it (and possibly buy it back). He had a personal plate on it, OO6 788, but it was originally a G reg. It's a XJS 5.2 V12 British racing green. Sold in 99 in Basingstoke. If anyone has any idea as to how I'd trace it I'd love to know! Thanks 👍

Looking for a 1998 Subaru Impreza Turbo in Grey, last taxed 2011. Reg S88WRX. That was my Dad's first import back in 1998. Anyone know its whereabouts?
Also looking for LEL75W, a 1980 Ford Escort RS2000 in Red. Last taxed in 1989! My Dad sold it around then. Has no MOT details. Wondering where that is as well. He purchased it in 1987ish. Think it was his third car.

Also want to know who owns a 2005 WRX STI with prodrive wheels, DU550ZG. Dad owned it in 2015. Mint car. In 2017 it failed its MOT! It was mint when my Dad owned it.

When a car isn't taxed or Insured for that long it's almost certainly been written off.

As for the 05 STi

It's a rear fog n/w
A split balljoint cover
And (probably) a split wiper blade
and a height adjust on the headlight.

Even the advisories are just worn brakes on the front and the rears are corroded since its been standing (at a guess)

It was 12 years old. So a few things is not a surpise tbh

Just wondering if someone has preserved the RS2000? Could be lying about in someones garage somewhere in need of restoration. Hopefully it is. Hope the Subaru hasn't been written off. Someone on a different forum owned the car apparently and It only had 104k on the clock. According to the MOT it had several common Subaru issues and they were resolved back end of 2010/11 I think.

Hey guys,

Just wonder if anyone has seen gold Rover 75 with reg: SF02 MYN.
I sold it in Dundee in June 2015 since then seems like noone taxed it as I have done history check for it, it also tells that it hasn't been scrapped or written off or sold to anyone else.

This was my first car and I actually regret I sold it, wonder if I can get it back now biggrinbiggrin

Thanks in advance!

It appears cars like these aren't scrapped, but generally off the road and nobody bothers renewing the tax as its off the road and is just sat there. I'm guessing that's what happened to a few of my Dad's cars.

Has the car had 6 previous owners? If so, the car hasn't been scrapped.

Turns out my Dad's 1998 Subaru Impreza Turbo hasn't been scrapped. I believe its off the road as a HPI check confirmed this. Has only had 3 owners after it was sold. Interesting.

Askmid shows as uninsured.

And given the law now requires you to Insure any car, regardless of whether it's SORN or not. And this car isn't SORNed either. So I wouldn't get your hopes up. laugh

Mmmm...

You must have motor insurance for your vehicle if you use it on roads and in public places. You do not need to insure your vehicle if it is kept off the road and declared as off the road ( SORN ). This rule is called 'continuous insurance enforcement'.

It isn't shown as SORN, but someone may have just left it in a garage or in their back garden. There's a few cars in an abandoned tunnel in Liverpool that show as uninsured, but exist.

I really don't know how many previous owners it had, I had it since 2010 so there is possibility of this. Also I didn't know this car has been written off in 2008 until when I was selling it biggrin
I'm just having great memories with this Rover and just wonder if I can get it back smile

You may be able to if you locate the owner. My Dad's RS2000 and Impreza Turbo are alive according to the HPI check. There's a post on a Ford Forum about abandoned Fords and at least 90% haven't been taxed since the 90's. They exist, but have no tax.

Not my car

AC Cobra COB 1 says tax due 1986 1995. Surely that can’t have been scrapped?! It had over 700bhp. It was only built in the 80s

I reckon its not on the road. Unlikely to be scrapped. This is a common case with some cars, they aren't classed as SORN as nobody has bothered stating that the car is SORN. I believe you don't actually have to state the car is SORN. There are numerous cars parked in peoples garages and gardens not showing as SORN.

Renault Megane 225 trophy EX55UXK. I bought this car back in 2006 as an ex demo with 6k on the clock, had it for about 18months then sold it to Super Cars of Exeter with 31k on the clock. I checked out the MOT history and when it had its first MOT in 2008 the mileage was showing 24k... err. Currently not taxed or tested. Anyone know of its whereabouts?

As mentioned above many cars still show on the DVLA if they were not correctly scrapped. An example is my nans old Metro, still has a live DVLA record and shows as last taxed in 2004 but I know it was crushed. Also just checked and my old Saxo is the same and I know that also got broken for spares.

This not filling in the part of the V5 to say a car had been broken or sending off the certificate of destruction must have gone on for years hence the number of people selling old V5’s for Cars that were made into drinks cans years ago.

True, the DVLA are showing cars that were scrapped and broken down into parts. The only way to fully check is to purchase a half decent HPI check. There's a chance of it living, and a chance of it being dead, unfortunately.

If you remember the build number, you could ask on v6clio.net I think the registrar there is probably aware of a fair chunk (if not the majority) of them.

He confirmed mine was still around after it turned up for sale on here a few months back. It was nice to see that it had still been looked after my ownership smile Unsurprisingly the dealer it had just ended up at had priced the car speculatively high compared to the current market.

Some cars are "pre SORN" ,they were off the road before SORN existed and so did not need to be SORNed.
