Gyrock, glad to read you have had good follow up with all concerned and that you should be back on the road soon. Lovely BMW you have there!

what a wit...
good to hear your situations getting sorted though gyrock! all the best
Really pleased your sorted. I've never used small filling stations as I was once told about the octane rating going down with the petrols age. This though has given a completely different reason not to use a small station!!
Also have you lot noticed how there seems to be one member of this forum who writes a stupid post during a very serious topic?

Rod being the most telling part of his name!
After at least week of waiting, Murketts phoned today to say that at last the items that had been on back order have arrived.
I get my car back in a week, although oddly I'm not sure I want it back to be honest. Just feels like it's been polluted in more ways than one and I wonder if it'll ever be the same

You'll think that right up until you drive it again. I always feel the same when any of my cars have been away for extended periods.
Incidentally, i was filling up last week at my local (busy) shell station. There was a buzzer going off in the back office, which the guy serving explained was the alarm for the tank water levels. Thought nothing of it at the time, but shows that they can tell roughly how much crap is sloshing around in the tanks.
Gyrock,
I'm glad you are getting it all resolved.
I would have your mechanic check the cylinder walls for signs of scoring (with a borescope), assuming enough gas/water mix was pumped through the injectors to wash the oil off the cylinder walls. I would also have them remove the sump housing to look for evidence of bent connecting rods (though I doubt enough water would have mede it in to hydraulic the pistons). Just a precaution before they deliver it to you "as good as new".
It's unlikely that much of anything bad happened down stream of the injectors. Any water was probably turned into steam and had a nice cleaning effect (similar to a water injection system). No praticles of any size could get through the injectors, but the injectors themselves could have been clogged.
I once had a similar problem with my Lotus Esprit. Though it was my fault...
I noticed some rust on the outside of my fuel tanks, a common Esprit problem, so I removed the entire fuel system (2 tanks, 6 injectors, pump, fuel lines, filter, fuel rail, cross pipe between tanks, and 2 filler necks) and refurbed my tanks.
I decided to remove all traces of paint and rust from the outsides of the tanks. Unfortunately I used a bead blaster to do this, and despite the fact that I covered up all holes, many glass beads got in the tanks. So I spent alot of time washing them repeatedly, and I thought I had all the beads out. So I painted the tanks, and put the whole car back together (had to remove 1/2 the engine, ECU, several firewalls, trunk section, all the wiring in the engine bay, coolant tanks... all just to remove both fuel tanks). Car ran fine for a while and then one day when I was 70miles from home, it started running on 2 injectors... It was the glass beads!
The tiny glass beads got through a rip in the fuel pump strainer, through the fuel filter, and clogged the injectors.
I had to replace everything, the fuel pump siezed, the filter, all 6 injectors, and the fuel pressure regulator. Then I had to tear the whole car apart again and remove both tanks. Picture of all that I had to remove.
And I finally used the POR-15 system to clean, etch, and seal my tank from the inside. Even if there were beads left, the would be trapped in the epoxy.
Good luck, hope it all works out for you and your Z4 M Coupe.

I would have thought that anything small enough to get through a fuel filter would be so small it would be inconsequential.
The local RAC man told me that you should NEVER fill up at petrol station when the petrol tanker is there filling the tanks or for a few hours after. (if you know the tankers been there in the past few hours). Its stirs up all the sh!t from the bottom of the tanks.

My old boss had this happen to his VW along with a few other cars. He claimed for thousands and awell known supermarket brand paid up without issue. He was told that sometimes they clean out the tankers with water (I cant quite believe this) and that there had been a mix up and the tanker had been taken out mid clean and filled the petrol station which caused several cars to suddenly die a few hundred yards down the road.
