A £2.99 aerosol can of any Black Paint should have the same effect! without the risk of incriminating evidence And it's multi use!

surely the old 'burning tyre' routine works just as effectively.

Pigeon - I'm no expert but the poly-rod antenna you're talking about sounds a bit like a Yagi antenna - if this is what you're getting at, then there's plenty of antenna design detail available on the internet.

Nono, the Yagi is completely different - it's the ladder array of dipoles commonly used as a TV receiving antenna. A poly rod is one of these:

Presumably the RF comes out of the grey slot in the middle? Do you think there is a horn behind that, or an array? I suppose another way of asking the same thing, is what do we think the polarisation of the beastie is?

Overall I'm just wondering if the apetures are big enough not to introduce significant attenuation for the "death ray". Obviously it rather depends on what is behind the apeture.

I like simple solutions myself, but I'm not adverse to complicated ones. You don't need a ladder to get the Thermite up to the top. Just a "bit of stick". I suppose you could wrap it up in tin foil, if you wanted a "bit of hi-tec stick"!

hehe

The other thing I was thinking is that if you use RF to jam/damage the thing, there is the possibiliy that the jamming action will cause it to take a photograph of you attempting your assault. If you melt the insides out, then you'll probably be on foot, you can park behind it, and even if it takes a picture as you drive away, the molten metal has a good chance of damaging the film.

Why not just use a stinger missile ? Same effect, but far less nonsense.

Alternatively... drive at the speed limit and not beyond ?

All you simpletons advocating farmyard-tech 'solutions' for the Gatso problem.... you are all missing the point entirely.

The point is 'SHOCK AND AWE' - to show the authorities that the resistance has access to high technology weaponry and that we ARE NOT TO BE MESSED WITH

rofl

Besides, and I'd need a copper to verify this - using things like Stinger missiles and explosive will be encompassed by rather serious laws like anti-terrorism offences... whereas the use of an RF weapon (which they will not be able to easily prove anyway unless you're caught in the act) will most likely only be covered by criminal damage.

And, it'd be fun to have a go

I'm not into creating a spectacular mess, I just like the idea of killing them. I liked the thermite idea but it is too spectacular. I also like the idea of a jammer but that's not permanent. If people get out there and kill these things en-masse, maybe..........

I'm sure the relevant department has people paid to sit surfing the web for signs of something interesting about to happen. I'm sure as hell not going to be at the bottom of it. I do hope that people take the idea, talk about it and think about it and do it.

with this type of action you could get away with and is functional for a short time...

ow...and this one is blown up;
with this type of action they could lock you away...but if someone else do this to only scamera's then see if I carehehe

I doubt the cops would recognise one

EDIT:- Can any of you academic chaps source this? Looks like a promising thing. Out of curiosity, what is it made out of?

The problem with deactivating a camra by these complicated means is that the damage is not apparant as your driving towards it. You won't know if its been repaired so could happily drive through over the limit only to be caught out. This means the only way to deactivate them is in a destructive manner so on the approach its very apparant your not going to have you pic taken.

How about a hydraulic cutting device to "lop the top off" , quick simple etc ?

Consider it this way, you get your dynamite out and blow the thing open like a tulip. The first thing which happens is that the cops start jumping up and down, the powers that be get the thing replaced. They have an eye open for future shenanigins and if you get caught with dynamite, smack smack!

Same with thermite, it's a dangerous mixture and you are a terrorist.

You unleash your ray gun at the thing and it toasts it in a subtle way.

1. They will not know it's been toasted
2. When they find out, they will have to troubleshoot the problem

This is a process which causes a lot of down time and is exceedingly difficult to detect.

It reminds me of being a punk when I was at school. Quickest way to get in trouble was to unload your swear vocabulary at a teacher. Best way was to use proper vocabulary and walk right up to where the line was drawn and shout from it.

I don't like speed cameras, I think they are a moneymaking virus. There is no way I'd consider zapping one in a 30 zone. Think of the children! I just basically want a scamera equivalent of what creosote is to fungus

I think we have the idea and with a few dotted around the country, in theory, most of the unfair scameras could be neutralised.

(All in theory of course)

I thought the laser idea was a good one, so I had a look at the usual suppliers of interesting gizmo type stuff - Maplin, RS Components, Screwfix etc. and then I stumbled across a place in the U.S. called Northrop Grumman (I think they might be a division of Tandy) and they had this thing called a 'THEL'. Well that looked a bit big and heavy, and I reckoned that the shipping costs might be a bit steep, so instead I went for their Air Borne Laser, which is designed to bolt to a plane and knock missiles out of the sky. Should be small, light and powerful enough to sort out a Gatso and with the dollar exchange rate the way it is, I thought I'd grab a bargain!

Well, it arrived yesterday and I worked late into the night to get it fitted to my E-Class for a trial run. Lucky I didn't go for the BMW Touring as the extra space in the Merc proved handy for cramming in all the pipework and pumps required to operate the chemical laser!

Anyway, it all went in and I gave it a quick run around the block this morning. I need to pump the rear tyres up a bit to cope with the extra weight and the turret is going to seriously affect my mpg, but it all seems to work.

There aren't any Gatsos near me but I test fired it at a couple of road signs and some old dodderer who held me up on the way back and it seems to work...

I was trying to think how I could disguise the bit on the roof as that's the only give away really.
