I'm sure there was a case in the news a year or two ago about a bloke having his finger chopped off by theives who wanted his top-of-the-range Mercedes which had fingerprint security. This is one technology we can well do without.
Yup, a bloke in malaysia had his finger cut off by thieves so they could nick his merc.

They Have these on most up-and-coming laptops as well - rather than typing in your password like you usually do you can swipe your finger over a sensor. Clever, but really, what's the problem with good ol' key and lock?

As if you missed out an 'e' in fingerprint...
Well unfortunately the problem is quite simple, ask a few Bently owners whose wheels are flying around Moscow as we speak.

the T Leaves are getting better and better, if it is tested to the max and works properly i think it is the next BIG step in car safety. A tracker is all well and good, but not a prevention, i am sure it is fun watching your bently fly around moscow on a computer screen..

also i would like to add the finger print pad will still read you finger print if it is cut or dirty.they are warranted for 2 years and have a override for service/all users and cleaning purposing using a 4 digit pin code so no need to worry about anything.

From what I remember the newer scanners use capacitance and not resistance and therefore are not fooled by a 'dead hand'.

Trouble is all these great gimmicks are ok for new cars but 5 years down the line they then become more trouble than they are worth,.

What happens if it gets wet? What happens if you use an oily/chocolate covered finger? Cut or bruise on your thumb?

the system is already in use in bulk at various disney resorts for lockers, entry to resort rooms etc, and works like a charm, it has to be better than fumbling around with an immobilser key?

the problem with fingerprint locks is that they can't be so sensitive that the day you get glue on your fingers or pick up something hot and burn your finger it still works, this means that the system is going to be more suseptible to spoofing in some manner, you will get more complaints if it prevents the user from using their vehicle than from people for who it failed to prevent the robbery

I envision climbing into my car after a hard climbing session, having removed the skin from my finger tips, and realising that I will be calling a taxi to get home...
