I love the Trophy. I am 24, so it is not cheap to me. I m only a tracher so not rich!!

I ve drove lots of other cars and for me the Trophy is awesome for cost/power ratio.

The Trophy also stands out against any charv chariot.
Let me guess you got the "nice" car but are still renting...

If thats the case then thats £10k deposit for a house in a depreciating asset, when you could have spent £1-3k and got a decent fast car.
Propertyheads - investment matters.

Well Im just sick and tired of the FTB's complaining about the house prices are way beyond their means & they cannot afford a good deposit then you see then driving round in nice new cars...hmm a want it now attitude over medium to long term.

Never been a fan of clios, or french cars for that matter.
Heard people raving on about these, but are they actually any good?
Ok, so they probably handle better then your run of the mill FWD shopping trolley, but is it actually good at handling? Is it as much fun on the twistys as say an elise or a scooby, while still having some pace unlike say an MX5?

Flimsey french tat IMHO. How many NCap stats does it have??? How many air bags & curtain air bags does it have? And doe sit oddly have ABS omitted???

french cars are whoop! you may be able to sling a lightweight cardboard car around a corner which is lots of fun, (and can be catastrophic in the wrong place with police, pedestrians and granny drivers round every turn) but in the real world of motorways and long winding roads a clio will get trounced by anything with a bit of power. it may have a good 0-60 pace when thrashed but thats where it ends and more power wins when the wind resistance kicks in . torque steer? u only get that from a standing start. an alfa gta, focus rs or vxr or anything like that will just whip it in everyday use. oh and u can chuck all cars round bends fast which is fun. but if ur too optomistic or shite u`ll crash whatever car ur in. + kids drive clios.
I'm astonished at some of the posts here, like these three. I assume welshbeef is joking, please someone reassure me that he is. I'm sure he is, but this is PH, and with those other two posts, well, you just never know.

But i continue to be really genuinely shocked at some of the stuff i read on PH, its just frightening sometimes.

smile And just in case that's aimed at me, to buy a house and stay in my current job (Training Management and Consultancy - not exactly poorly paid!!) with sensible mortage repayments, I'll need a deposit of about £100k - £130k. Whilst I'm saving for that, spending the odd £10k or £20k on a car or two makes absolutely bugger all difference hehe

I think more to the point unless you've paid out right for your trophy you didn’t have 10k in the bank to put on a house anyway. Most likely paying 200 quid a month off the loan rather than watching your 10k going south.

Also just because you may be in the position to have a car worth at the time £10k doesn’t mean you could have realistically bought and maintained a property instead. If you’re not that well paid you probably cant survive with a £600 mortgage with enough money left over to support your other out goings whether that a £3k car or just the basics like food, water and gas.....

Very small minded some people. rolleyes

Depends on what you’re going into. I've looked into it ever so slightly due to my OH in the near future becoming a full fledge teacher. But realistically with a deposit of 25k (between both of us) and our income looking at a small 2 bed apartment for 180k isn’t going to cost the earth to mortgage. But I suppose I may be unrealistic in what I think we'll end up paying I think around 1k mark might be the right ball park figure. But all this is very dependent on where the market is on mortgages etc.

My point was that just because you have a decent car doesn’t translate into missed opportunity in investing in bricks and mortar

Sorry to hear that, but I'm also glad to know that I've made the right decision in avoiding it. That's what I was quoted with a £50k deposit on a £180k house (I think those were the figures). I've decided to keep my current lifestyle up (contracting and just renting where the work is or commuting from my parents' house) until I've got a six figure deposit.

I thought this was going to be a weekly feature?

"These are the PistonHeads Heroes and today sees the start of a new weekly feature by the same name."

Was looking forward to seeing the PH versions of hero cars. Shame.....

Premonition: Next week's feature will be about the Caterham 7 Superlight. The article will praise its incredible nimble handling and raw driving experience, and punters will then be able to post their own valuable opinions - including useful nuggets of information and experience like "it isn't as roomy as my Volvo estate..." and "it would be much better with a twin turbo V6, power steering and traction control...."

yes An amazing car. No mention of the fact you need to look like this to get comfortable in one though:

Which is a shame, as the Trophy and the V6 are very high on my list of favourite cars.
Don't agree that you need to have 10ft arms to get comfy, if you can't get comfy in this you cant get comfy in anything with Recaro's, unless that is what you were hinting at. These seats are the same as the ones in many high performance cars, some Subaru's included.

Agreed though that the car is amazing. I recently bought number 007/500 and love every mile
