237bhp and 0-60 in over 6 seconds?!?!?!

Pfft! Modern "hot hatches" - what a joke.

Still, probably pushing the limits with that much BHP through the front wheels - why an earth is there no LSD though, surely can’t add more than a few hundred quid to the cost?

So it's a VXR with different wheels and an aftermarket exhaust? A real 'ring legend in the making

pointless marketing exercise.

The T8 is so much cooler. Seems like vauxhall have tried to emulate the success thurlby had with their limited edition twist on the astra. LSD comments very valid- for that sort of money and the 'ring association you would expect a no compromise hot hatch- less weight, better handling

Does this obsession with "the ring" from car manufacturers annoy anybody else? Yes i can see a point if its a new sports car but I really couldnt give a rats ar*e how my new supermini/hatch/saloon/MPV/van/truck/bus/APV/tank goes round the ring. Its not relevant!

Somebody on a recent thread said something along the lines of "One day we'll live in a world where 0-60 times are considered irrelevant"

This "joke" has lapped the 'Ring in 8:35. Some other times for reference:

I'd still take megane R26 or a Golf GTI - Its nothing personal just think the Vauxhall badge is a bit naff (I'm a brand whore!!!wink)- and if the Torque steer of the standard car is anything to go by then the power hike won't help matters either - seems to me to be a "jump on the band wagon" sort of car to compete with the R26 F1 and Golf 30th anniversary??? I mean come on, 20 grand for a Vauxhall Astra?

Mate, you will never get anyone on here to admit that any Vauxhall ever had any redeeming features whatsover, let alone might be a decent car...

Hmm, so the Astra VXR is only one second slower round the ring than the VX220 Turbo... does that sound unlikely to anyone else, or is it just me?

I like it. And I want one. I like the standard VXR anyway but this one looks great.

No I was thinking the same thing. A front wheel drive hatch faster than a selection of more powerful rear wheel drive sports cars?

I'm sure it great, but its still just a Astra that looks like its been crashed into a branch of Hellfrauds.

And the dashboard is the worst of anycar in its class.... VXRubbish.

Quick look on an auto trading website found for the same £20,995 various white cars, including pre-registered Honda Civic Type R FD2 JDM Spec, Impreza WRX, BMW 318 M-Sport, Mini Cooper S or (for a grand more) a 1980 Ferrari 308 GTS Coupe. All more desirable (to me) than a tarted up Vauxhall.

Alternatively, pick up a 2 year old Monaro for 15K or a VX220 (same lap time) for around 10K.

Now, if the 2 grand had been spent on stripping out the aircon, heater, stereo; swapping in manual windows, heated windscreen (cos there's no heater to demist it...), light-weight seats, wafer thin carpets; adding a diff so that the performance was actually better than the stock VXR maybe I'd be interested.

It definitely did the time as a standard car. Reuter drove it. He also hustled a Zafira VXR round in 8:54, which isn't too shabby.

My point was an indictment on the ridiculous weight of so called "hot hatches" these days - stick 237bhp in a hatchback from 15 years ago and watch it fly. Progess? I think not.
