When you put it like that, it's hard to fault it.

what an ugly car that celica is. when did toyota last make a good looking motor? supra maybe or even the gt4?
The GT4 was many things. Pretty is not one of them. Mine is lovingly referred to as a "squashed frog"

Function over form definitely for the ST205 GT4!

I like all the vents and scoops, at least they are all there to do something (on the rally car anyway).

Hmm.. My friend sent me this link some time ago, about a new small coupe that would be co-manufactured by Subaru and Toyota - a small, 2 door "AE86ish", RWD coupe - check it out here - http://www.dieselstation.com/news/automotive/toyot...
I thought it was simply a photoshop jobbie, and now this on Pistonheads..
I guess this stuff may well be true.
And do you know what that means? Either these two cars are actually the same one, or Subaru and Toyota and planning a revival of discontinued TOUGE BEASTS!!!!

Ps. Yes, I like Initial D.
Ps2. Hi, I'm new.

Hello and Welcome.

Interesting. Looks a bit Vauxhall Astra to me, but other than that not bad.

How about a production scooby powered rwd 2 seater

MR2 STi or MX5 Sti anyone?
http://www.murtaya.com/  - OK so it's 4wd but otherwise it fits the bill.

and not production but apart from that yes. I had an enjoyable run out in one last year at Brands Hatch and am still tempted by the idea, the styling is not to everyones taste though.
I met the AMS boys at the Exeter kitcar show and asked them about a RWD as opposed to AWD version, but they thought you'd have to be slightly unstable to think about it.

Hmmmm looks like a fairly large disappointment then! 108bhp and looking like a family runabout. So it'll be slow / mediocre at best with benign looks to match.

The last celica may not have been to everyone's liking, but at least it didn't look like everyone else's car either.

Erm - I'm pretty sure the Celica name is dead and buried.

That being said, I'd love a new GT-Four.
yeah, it wont be called a celica...

but hey, a 300bhp 4WD coupe sounds interesting regardless of what they call it!
And the reason they can't bring back the Celica name is...?

A coupe with STi running gear?!?

Not original...Prodrive already thought it...but great idea!!! biggrin
Eh? You mean the P2? Which came after the P1? Which was based on the Type-R, which Subaru did first.
Erm...the P1 wasn't particularly a coupe...a 2-door saloon would be more accurate.

Sounds like a great idea, especially as it will have 300 bhp and 4wd.

im sure toyota could develop thier own race spec engines without having to turn to the baseball cap chav adoring manufacturer. the tsport has shown the way forward and lets not go back to dated turbo engines that need servicing everytime u turn the key

That's the car Subaru should have designed and put on the road. That's quite nice unlike a lot of hatchbacks on the road today. Well done Toyota for coming up with a fresh design that makes a nice looking motorbiggrin Blistered arches, a bonnet scoop and roof vent all in WR Blue, Obsidian Black or just plain white would be very cool. thumbup

What's the best way to get shedloads of power and efficiency from a small engine....TURBO IT!!! They are here to stay so get used to it. Forced induction is being used more than ever now by all the manufacturers and Subaru are masters of Turbocharging!!

There's that Chav monika again that's now become so utterly boring. 'Same ole same ole' and you have no imagination if that's all you can come up with for a first post!! I think you should get back into your cave and hibernate some more because your thinking is well out of date mate! rolleyes

I'm not so sure about this, Toyota have been bent on making dull appliances recently. I think all the speed loving engineers would have commited hari kari by now.

I doubt it will have AWD and RWD options as it would need a totally different gearbox. More likely FWD or AWD as the choice.

i cant put into words how much this car will never ever happen.
I agree...there have been rumours of Toyota resurecting the AE86/Celica/MR2/Supra for years now.

Every few months a new picture of them appear in the Japanese motoring press but nothing ever comes of it.

Toyota currently dont have ANY sports cars in their line up and with most of their cars sharing the same platform it will take a whole new production plant to get it going.
A friend of mine that lives and works in Japan said that Toyota's advertising centres around safety and the environment and their product range does reflect this.

I would love to see it happen but I really doubt it will.
