nothing you couldn't return to standard relatively easily, particularly if you manage to flip that cherished plate but TBH it doesn't look to be particularly valuable or desirable - probs why it's being thrown in.

Considering the reg plates are from “car planet” (google it), I wouldn’t just run....

It’s also got Accelera Phi tyres, these are the only tyres I have ever thought dangerous on a car. I’m sure they’re fine at 200hp, but they could not cope with full-throttle in the dry on my M6, in 4th Gear, at 3000 rpm. The S85 engine is not known for being a torque monster, but still... At 6000rpm+ the car would randomly torque steer across the road, and if that involved crossing a white line, it’d slew 15 degrees instantly. Even going around a constant radius corner at m-way speeds would get the car twitching. I strongly recommend that if you ever see these tyres on a car you’re looking to buy, you either walk away or negotiate a change into the price.

And yet I am on the 3rd set of these on my Q7 and they are great - it handles perfectly in the dry and amazingly in snow and ice

Zero issues with grip and slip over what is around 60k miles now

Much improved performance over the continentals that were fitted when I purchased it which felt like they had been greased!

Doing a very random search for petrol estates and this somehow came up. 2.8 A6. Didn't even know these exist.

Can any of the Merc beards on here advise what "Technical modifications (10)" and "Modification year 09/2" relate to.

Obviosuly being the other end of the country doesn't help either.

So your opinion is Accelera tyres are better than Continental?

In my direct experience from the Conti’s fitted and used when I bought it and the Accelera’s since, Yes. Year and season round performance has been much superior and zero issues with grip or stability and TC

They are laughably unsuited to UK roads, but great fun. (only driven in US). What I like most is that even at 85mph, floor it, it’ll kickdown and go for the horizon. Sure, it won’t trouble a current hot hatch, but the 2l tdi rep brigade would be surprised. (And the outside lane intimidation factor is off the scale) laugh

If I had the space, I’d be tempted, in a ‘it’s only money’ fashion, but the wheels would have to get changed to some more ‘normal’ ones, and the 7 would have to go as I couldn’t justify both. Since I love my 7, it’s not going to happen (yet).

This thread takes a bit of finding when you need it. I was looking for a cheap Merc V12 for the fella who shipped his to Oz where it had a bit of a breakdown.

Anyway, I found this, and am utterly smitten...

If you've only got brass clangers, not a ballistic-grade Titanium set, how about his V8 engined brother?

This one looks *almost* sensible.
