RE: 1040bhp Rolls
Discussion
Having been a drag racer for a number of years I have never seen a RR engine used in Top Fuel racing. The Hemi in its various forms is the engine of choice. When you think that the top boys get over 6000 HP for these things and are running the quater in under 4 seconds and at over 330 mph, the RR engine does not have anywhere need the ability to put out those kinds of numbers.
As for this RR,I think it is cool. I have also seen this car and you have to see it up close to realise the quality of the work that has gone into it. Its not just an engine and a set of wheels, this car has been totally engineered. Even a RR employee would be impressed by the standard of work as it is of a much higher standard than RR would produce themselves

Today : Yes.....Yesterday : Yes, everyone but Russ Carpenter, virtually everyone uses the Chrysler Hemi.
who relied on a DAIMLER 2.8 l V8 engine with blower AND Nitro
to get past his hemi-powered drag race rivals.

I do not know how similar this old Daimler engine is to a RR,
but I know that Russ bought a lot of these in his career,
to keep as spares.
He called his dragster "Glacier Grenade", later "Hemi Hunter".

You are right, Russ did use the Daimler 2.5 to great effect a number of years ago but not in Top fuel. Also did you realise that the Daimler 2.5 and its cousin the 4.5 are both Hemi's. Russ was a great racer who built most of his own speed equipment as it was not available off the shelf. The Hemi's used in top fuel now are totally custom built and share no parts with the original Mopar Hemi's from the 60's and 70's. But if you have the money you can buy a crate Street Hemi from Mopar performance and tune to your hearts content. That is the engine in this RR

I thought there was a special troop of SAS kept in reserve just to prevent this sort of incident from happening.
That said at least they managed to avoid using a Chevy engine...again...
As a turnaround I'd like to see an American muscle car with a Rolls engine in it.
Unlikely to happen as at the end of the day most RR engines are not "performance" engines with a few exceptions, and tuning equipment is not available. Also with all due respect they dont look that good, which is important to the muscle car guys. That said at least they managed to avoid using a Chevy engine...again...

A few years ago a guy put a RR V8 into a 32 Ford 3 window coupe hotrod, it was a very nice car and well built, but I have not seen one since.
As for using the Chevy engines, well when you can produce a very reliable 600+ HP for not a silly amount of money you will understand why they are so popular. Also at a recent HP event in the USA one guy managed 2300HP at the rear wheels of his street driven small block chevy powered Chevy Nova, now thats power

err, am i missing something, or does that say 330mph?? are you sure you don't mean kph? even so, thats pushing it every so slightly on quarter-mile?As for this RR,I think it is cool. so who built this car then? you seem to have the knowledge...

Seems plausible to me. NHRA website says the top fuel record is 336 mph in 4.4 secshttp://www.nhra.com/stats/natrecord.html
Here's a vid of a Top Fueller doing >480 kph (>300 mph) in 4.76:

250-280mph in the first 200 metres, 50-60mph in the final 200 metres.Also, 0-100mph - I'll type that again so it's definitely not a typo - 0-100mph in less than a second. Eeep.
I think current top-fuellers are pushing out something like 8,000bhp and 5,000 lb-ft.
