I'm leaning this way, but stuck with a conundrum.
A. If I get a fancy electric garage door, so that I actually use the garage for my 'boring' car, it will look rubbish on an oak cart shed.
B. If I get lovely oak stable doors, I'll never bother to use the garage for my 'boring' car.
I worried the same, now I'v done the swap to electric secional doors (scroll back a few posts) I actualy dont think they look bad at all, and it's 1000x more usable
Your garage is fantastic, but those doors aren't to my taste. Sorry!
Personal choice, but you clearly understand the dilema, looks vs usasbility

I found the pain of havign to unlock and open door, pin them back both sides one by one, get in the car and drive it out, get out the car and shut and lock the doors, and worse the reverse on return especuialy in the rain, just too much.
I meant I didnt use the cars in that garage as much as the ones near the house. Add in the better sealing and insulation and for me it's the best thing I've done to the place.

Quite like the idea of hinged barn doors - I think they'd get annoying quite quickly in real life

I'm leaning towards roller shutter at the moment
I had hinged wooden barn doors, absolute pain manually, automating them is ugly inside.

In the end I bit the bullet and fitted sectional insulated doors which are properly water / draught tight end mean the dehumidifiers work

Those barn doors do look nice, but your new ones really "pop". The colour contrast looks great. Superb choice.
Didn't think I'd agree but I do, the barn doors look lovely and rustic but the black doors just look brilliant

Perfectly articulated.

Indeed, got some on the house garages but they by nature protrude quite a bit internally and when closed only hold the doors at the top.
Sealing isn’t as good snd with 6 openings I wanted it very well sealed so I could control the humidity effectively.

You pays your money…

We have toyed with sizes and are having an oak double garage built with a barn hip roof. Just awaiting confirmation of a start date. Decided to go with 6m deep by 6.5m wide with doors on both sides and no dividers.

Had planned on one open and one with doors but that would need a dividing wall to be properly useful and that impedes door opening space in the middle us I wanted a big open space and option to park diagonally if wanted for polishing/tinkering/general feeling of space so both with doors is the plan now.

Mr and the Mrs have 2 cars each so the garage will be used for the occasional use fun ones and the daily cars will be parked outside so we are happy with the double wooden doors and a bit of faff for the visuals. I totally get though for daily use a more modern door type would make more sense.

That's interesting!

This doesn't need to be a hermetically sealed, climate controlled storage unit. It's just something to keep the rain off the cars and somewhere to do a bit of fiddling.

I got wooden doors made that look like they open in the middle but go up-and-over.

That sounds ideal. Do you have a link for the supplier by chance?

After saving for quite a few years and going through the planning process to extend the single garage at my house, it all disappointingly came to a halt when the ridiculous quotes starting coming in, it wasn't a simple extension (underfloor storeroom, the house is on a hill) however, I honestly could have bought another house for what was being asked.
This meant I had to look at alternative options.
Luckily I came across something 5 minutes from my house.
It has power, water and a loo, with a mez level towards the rear.
It's just had a new roof but still needs some minor repairs here and there, a paint inside and out to tidy it up, a new roller shutter door and 4-post ramp, benches/storage etc, but I'm happy with it overall.

Wow! Now that is a space it would be fun to fill. Congrats.

Brilliant idea and probably prove far cheaper with 10 times the space.

Thanks, I do but not really worth posting, just imagine about a foot of pigeon ste, on top of which sits various piles of farming type junk and rubbish.
Hopefully this will all be cleared out in the next couple of weeks and I'll get a better look at it and some pics.

Less than half the price of my quoted garage extension, including the plot!

Sounds prime for some good before and after comparisons, look forward to seeing how you progress.

A proper rural looking barn full of cars is the dream, congrats

Amazing, without too much detail - what sort of price?
