How has may have, (may've) morphed into may of over the years? Probably because people don't read as much nowadays, journalists are lazy and nobody is corrected! Not a dig, just a bugbear of mine!
Oh god, not the old "everyone is lazy" and "things arent as good as they were in my day"Finally I can come play on this thread. Reserved a house for completion in a few months and the ground floor is a large garage which is currently just a large void. There is a power socket in there but no lighting installed so that is the first thing. Came to this thread for some inspiration about how I can deck it out. Flooring is tiled already so that is a big expense taken care of. Quite a few pillars so options of box sectioning with some stud partition walls if it wasn't left open plan solely for cars.
Need to start reading back into this thread to get some ideas on what might be useful, what is practical and what is just brilliantly daft.

Looks an impressive space - shame the pillars are there really ... but if they're holding the house above up ...
Have a search back through this thread to see some of the lighting ideas - those flat LED panels on the ceiling would be great for lighting this up - any natural light available along that far wall if you put a window or two in or some nice doors or something - difficult to say without know ing what's the other side of that wall ...
All the £££ soon add up though - even in a garage!

Yes, the pillars are structural and extend throughout the floors above (albeit in the "internal" floors they are decorated as a nice feature - not so in the garage).
To be fair, they are at least positioned equidistant, or roughly so, and so you can get cars either side of them with plenty of room. As you look at that pic I would think 5 cars is possible and possibly even a 6th at an angle on the far left where the junk is currently stored. Driveway space sits in front of the door with a gate to the road then the other side of that.
Sadly no way of adding natural light from any wall other than the front as its built into a mountain. With only the door and a very narrow window above which also provides air circulation, its even more baffling that no lights have ever been fitted! Was thinking those flat panel ones so will dig some details out. I note a lot of people don't recess them but just fix them to the ceiling.
Need to have a chat to a sparky on a few bits and bobs so will take him down there and seek some ideas and costs. Gulp.
