One of the most entertaining cars I've owned with every single drive an occasion.

If you want attention, leave the Lambo in the garage and take the Clio hehe

I think The R5 Turbo is in another league.
One of my all time favourite cars.
Someone I used to know had a Lancia dealers in the West End but iported a few R5's, the interior on the Turbo 1 was sheer lunacy, especially in Orange, metallic blue ans silver, it was like something from Space 1999

It's great to see a mainstream manufacturer with the balls to make a car like this. Are you listening Citroen and Peugeot?

An excellent description of this very special car. I'm on my second one now. Once bitten........... smile

The car pictured is one of 18 Liquid Yellow and not one of 8 Acid Yellow as stated.

Had one of these to use which I duly took to show my dad,
It was hilarious when I threw the key at him and it looked just like his 1.2 Clio key but when I took him outside to find it parked next to his car he couldn't believe it was another Clio.hehe

The owner did eventually get caught out by the lively back end and backed it into some trees.driving

I think that the Clio V6 was as insane as the Bugatii Veyron in terms of outside the box thinking and designing a car that was just to prove that it can be done.

Well done Renaultbeer

Please Please Please can another manufacturer (anybody) put one of there crazy concepts into production and provide us with more of this type of thing!!!!!!yum

Does/has anyone own/owned the 'bugeye' Mk.1 Clio V6 230? Are they really the 'widowmakers' that journalists say they are? Anyone?

There a pussy cat but like any car if pushed hard they can come unstuck! There is or was a designe floor with the weight being to high up in the back, the stupid comments like where did you get the body kit and is that a stereo system in the boot gets you down after a while and has anyone mentioned the depreciation yikes That hurts, but wot car yum

Heard a rumour (may be an urban legend, but it could be true)...
that the vents on the 230 were so badly designed they actually slowed the cars down.

  • puts hand up* - I used to own one, and used it as a daily driver.
I don't want to burst anyones bubble, but personally I didn't like it, and didn't keep it very long. Maybe I just missed the point, but it just didn't handle, which for me is the most important part of car ownership. In a straight line it was HUGE fun, and felt very quick. However it just didn't give me any confidence in corners, and the feedback was pretty rubbish so I was left with a car that I could only have fun with on the straights.

All IMHO of course, and I'm sure many others would disagree, but it just wasn't for me.

Anyway, some pics I had taken of my old car for Practical Performance magazine (photographers rights reserved). I think they look fantastic, and the noise when you floor it is immense.

Wasn't a great article to read! Quite a few mistakes. TWR didn't have anything to do with the Mk2. They were sac'd after makign a hash of the mk1. That is as identified above Liquid yellow not Acid.

It's pissing with rain in the test, how anyone can accurately test drive a car in those conditions is beyond me...

It is faster and quicker than the other clio RS range, significantly infact ( I own both)

yes the build is crap and a 5k scoob/evo whatever will beat it but the point of the car is not to win races it's something to make people stop and stare and appreciate it for what it is...A rare, completely bonkers mid engined clio.

I love mine, got it when i was 21 and will never sell...

Top cars, can you imagine Ford with its ST pretensions of sportiness actually having the balls to make a RWD Focus, I know they keep threatening one but it never actually appears.

Thanks for the advice. I didn't realise we weren't allowed to test cars for three quarters of the year in this country. rofl

It's a fair point...Uk weather isn't great and i would imagine the opportunity to drive the car again is limited.

Much as i agree with some of your comments, Re, interior and driving position (improved with recaro's) It's far from being Skitish: To quote

The twitchiness of the chassis – it feels like you could spin in a straight line.

utter tripe, of course in the wet it would! Should you ever be about id' give you a shot on track and you would be proven wrong!

Owners will naturally defend their cars, and you are of course welcome to your opinion!
