I drove a 255 this year and liked it but was nowhere near as imppressed as I thought I would be. It didn't feel very fast and the torque felt surprisingly weak unless your ringing it's neck. I can imagine the 255 being extremely competent however in say 2/3rd gear, keeping it at high revs and feeding throttle into and out of a series of bends (i.e track driving).

My main gripe was that I could not find a way of turning the traction control off, which p---ed me off, as it was a real hinderance.

maybe because it has no traction control

Never was any Clio V6 ever fitted with any form of traction control.

Don't know what it was that you were driving ??? But it wasn't a V6 Clio. Are you sure you weren't hitting the rev limiter ????

Does/has anyone own/owned the 'bugeye' Mk.1 Clio V6 230? Are they really the 'widowmakers' that journalists say they are? Anyone?

Is it possible that the 255 you drove had Racelogic traction control, and the dealer thought it was OEM?

Brilliant things - I had one for a week, and it's still one of the few modern cars I'd like to own.

Horrendously gash interior aside, if you want something something newer that actually feels a bit like an
aircooled 911 to drive, they're just the ticket. Not sure of the build quality though.

Renaultsport is actually Alpine renamed, who used to make some very iconic mid/rear engined car, so they know what they're doing. It's a bloody shame that Alpine doesn't exist anymore. The GTA was also excellent.

Brilliant cars, I would love to own one but I think I will probably be sticking with Japanese cars for a while yet. Not sure those huge rear arches would fit in my garage either, now that I look at it!

I feel exactly the same. There's just a certain "Je Ne Sais Quois" (just cause it's French) about these things! Would definitely feature in my dream garage smile

Myth 1 - it does NOT have the short wheelbase - it's over 2.5 m. Boxsters and MR2 have it shorter.

6ft 3ins - it was OK. Knees occasionally brushing the wheel, and enough space between the headliner and my bonce.
