Front wheel drive is crap: check

Mention of chavs: check

Criticising a car you've never driven: check

Illustrate poor VFM by comparing it to a used car: check

Rely on bar room 'knowledge' and stereotypes: HOUSE!!!
Absolutely bang on the money.

Unfortunately, this makes up the majority of PH now.

Christ! Start any thread with Megane R26R or Focus RS in the title, and it seems to draw the same tardy responses! When will a few of you just appreciate the car for what it is, rather than bring up the tedious Fwd is crap spiel.

it seems from an outside perspective unless you own an MX5 or TVR then your not worthy enough to even post?!

i have been a member for some time now, but i think i may take a back seat from now on, as the fun has been taken out of it somehow.

In a front wheel drive car, how does backing off the throttle give you tail end drift?

Zebra
It's called lift-off oversteer.
....and the alleged speed for this....
Alleged???? What do you mean?

Here's a good vid of Chris Harris demonstrating the technique for lift off oversteer in a Clio 197:

And here is one of Martin Rowe demonstrating FWD driving techniques:

Finally, and just because it's a great video, Chris Harris again demonstrating power oversteer in an e39 M5:

we know about oversteer mate _ you're a bit late into the joke. smile

Both good cars in their own right _ totally agree that people have a go for no reason and without reasonable knowledge to back statements up, resuting in pages of rubbish. That aside, it has to be agreed that many PH'ers agressively defend cars to the point of abuse with a refusal to accept on occasions, an alternative comment [rather than judgement] which is why so many people have left PH. Agree that there is less fun to be had here than there was and lets look at the move towards more max power and less about about old school focus [no, not the ford one] as a contributary factor.

1200kg is pretty damn lardy for a stripped out track focussed car. Stinkin' modern cars.

My trusty old Renault 5 turbo was under 700kg when I stripped it. That was a proper hot hatch...
Although i agree with you i know which is would rather crash.

Simple, why don`t the clever french just put a removable back seat in?
Will solve a lot of problems.

Great write up, it will never appeal to everyone but what does? And I totally agree with the final part of David's write up that on the right road at the right time this car comes into it's own and is a fantastic "drivers car" very very jealous!

And then if they fold it down, it would make it even faster!

God yes. You'd be safer on a teatray towed behind the 5 than inside it.

From someone who has a Megane R26 and a Mini Cooper S, neither are perfect cars! Both have rattle and both are full of plastic!

The Mini is still new to us but the main difference so far is the Mini feels quite fast... the R26 IS that fast... wink

I would not buy an R26R due to impracticality, but prefer the standard R26 as its more an everyday car, but if your into the stripped out racer then I guess its for you.

I see that there seems to be very negative comments about just every car posted on PH now from the new Golf GTI to Fiat etc, doesnt seem anything escapes.

Maybe we all need to be driving Rolls Royces or something.

I doubt most of the armchair experts on Pistonheads have been in one, let alone driven one.

As per the post above (Silver Pellet's), most, if not all, opinions on cars degenerate into: Chav, it is slow, it is heavy, or some other dull excuse for a point of view.

This place is like a constant bar room brawl, without the pleasure of a beer in between thrown punches.

As for the R26.R - it is a run-out model but thankfully, Renault had the good grace to give it to the chaps in Dieppe; therefore, rather than fading into the 'old model' category with a whimper, they created a budget RS for a few petrol heads to buy. For this point alone, you'd think the members of pistonheads (it's in the name) would appreciate the sentiment. Instead, many would rather fill the thread with verbal diarrhoea.
