Given the fact that the Mini is half spaceframe, with half the back end missing, deseaming might not be the best option given how much strength and rigidity the seams given the shell.
The seams where only a cheap way of "crimping" panels together. No doubt that they provide rigidity but the expense of CF, one would have thought about the very many options you can do to remove this requirement. I know i have done this before with my old mini...

Absolutely. De-seaming was one of the first things to do to any mini shell, back in the day.

Back in the day when i was grass tracking minis seam welding as well as de-seaming was the best way to make the shell as stiff and strong as it would ever need to be without requiring a roll cage to add stiffness.

Back then a roll cage really was just a safety device and not really regarded like it is today as not just a safety device but the main ingrediant to stiffening the body so your suspension can work properly.

You don't often hear about builders seam welding bodies any more but rather just stuffing a cage in.

I always wanted to seam weld a shell for a project car, in the manner of the 964 RS. I also wonder how much it would cost to get a shell properly galvanized?

Just to dig this back up, I assume you would need to go through a IVA if you did this in the UK?
Ive been through a IVA before for a 100" Defender and would rather NOT have to go through one again...
