(complete with dubious-but-fashionable LED daytime running lights)

Dont get this comment, are they not an inbound EU directive not a fashion?

LEDs aren't a requirement, but they'll last a lot longer than standard bulbs if they're required to be on all the time.

And they use less energy than regular bulbs (which keeps the eco-mentalists quiet)

Well, i am in the process of buying a brand new vRS cr, there are a few reasons i am buying it. The first being that i need a good reliable reasonably priced car for work and also a fair load lugger for family stuff and weekends. The second is because of my height i am 6' 2" tall and it is the trunk of my body that is the longer part therefore i need good headroom, i tried an audi A3 and even with the seat on the floor my head touched the roof, The honda civics screen is too low i had to crouch to see through it, the volvo c30 has a boot that is minute, the focus i just have never liked. 3rdly i could not afford a brand new BMW 3 series or an Audi A4 or a Golf GTI so after reading reviews test driving various cars and checking different financial options the vRS was the obvious choice. I can buy it on a PCP deal over 3 years , pay no VAT, 3 years manufacturers warranty, reasonable insurance and tax, not too heavy on fuel and although not a "sport's" car it is a capable daily car with good load capacity , excellent rear legroom (2 x 6 foot plus sons) and is capable of being that bit more entertaining than comparably priced cars in its class, add to that the fact that Skoda came 4th in the 2009 JDPower customer satisfaction survey & the Octavia came top in same survey for its class.
I agree that it is not an "exciting" car or will/could replace MPV's (was a daft suggestion) but it is a well priced, well built, well specced car with a chunk of fun thrown in.

Dont pay over the odds. A Portsmouth dealership offered me a brand new white VRS Diesel manual for £16k there and then once i did some barganing.
On the net best price was about £250 less, and just over £15k for the petrol.
It pays to shop around on these as my local dealer would not budge on price, in fact spun me a bullst yarn that there are non available, so prices were tight. Dont fall for it.

The new facelift models are selling very well there is a fairly long lead time on them so i wouldnt expect the kind of deal you could get on the previous model

As an aside yesterday I dyno'ed my PD VRS which is now on 60,000 miles its stock apart from a K&N filter element

Result 198.9hp and 283ft lbs !!

How about a brand new White VRS diesel Manual hatch, 3 month wait factory order, with the auto mirror wipers and rear acoustic parking sensors for £15850? or in black with same extras £16200. that the best deal i can get, I think its fantastic, only thing stopping me getting it, the Wife thinks its too big. I said I would have rear parking sensors what more do you want??? She said she likes BMW 535Ds!! Womenconfused

Yes its an early 56 plate PD engine we have the 170 CR engine in our Superb and the Octavia certainly feels stronger than the later motor but that hasnt covered the miles the PD has so no doubt will loosen up still

No-one was more surprised than I smile

In think a used VRS Octavia is a real sensible choice, just curious are all RS's and VRS four wheel drive?

I think they are a nice looking motor and with a couple of subtle mods they look better. Is it only me that thinks that it would look good in the green you can get on the new Fabia VRS , with black wheels.. or is that my inner chav coming out. hehe

Oh and the new shape Octavia must have the colour-coded grill as seen on a couple of PH'ers cars.

No; vRS's are front wheel drive only... and absolutely dire on snow, it has to be said (at least when on OEM rubber - obviously winter tyres would help a lot). At all other times, it's not really an issue - they seem to put the power down pretty well.
