Sorry to make your entire post inaccurate (as already said, Lexus "entered" the Jap market in 2005) but the "luxury export for US market" bit is bks, too - it's just a made-up word that has brand attributes blah blah blah. If it were true it'd be Rexus, anyway. tumbleweed

Lexus is also a Spanish slang word for gay sex, by the way. Spanish a dangerous language for the car namers, obviously ("Nova" anyone?)

Yeah doesn't Pajero mean wker in Spanish too?

No wonder they only name their cars after places, seems like every other word in their language is a euphemism!

ETA - Not Shogun, Pajero

Are you suggesting the LFA is made by Toyota? eek
Lexus, Toyota. It's the same thing
By that logic, Bentley=VW thses days?
Sorry to go abit off topic from these lovely Mercs but just need enlighten a few people. Lexus is toyota, in Japan the same cars you call lexus here are toyota in Japan. They only introduced the lexus name for badge snobs

Lexus essentially translates as Luxury Export for the US market

Lexus IS200 outside japan, called Toyota Altezza in Japan is just one of many examples
No longer the case. Since 2005, Lexus has been standalone in Japan. Their own dealerships, etc.

There is no longer any badge differentiation.
Didnt know that, thanks for updating my Lexus info but bet your bottom dollar they are still engineered in the same place.

Lexus is a divison of Toyota so yes, it is Toyota. Whereas Bentley is owned by VW so it's a separate entity, i.e. Bentley is not VW
Lexus is a brand in its own right, even if it is a division of Toyota. The cars are designed, engineered and built entirely separately. Lexus is now reckoned to be one of the world's top 100 brands.

I am not sure of the precise details, but I think some time in 2005/2006 Lexus became an standalone organisation within Toyota. I would view them as an entirely separate manufacturer. Who owns who is largely irrelevant.
You're right with them going separate in 2005, they did it to change the image. But they are still part of Toyota. The question was whether LFA is made by Toyota, the answer is YES it's made by Toyota group. What's more main reason why LFA was designed was to commemorate Toyotas first win in F1 which never took place. Simples.

Don't think so - Lexus has its own design and engineering facilities with the only shared design being the hybrid technology, and the cars are built on their own lines or in separate plants by Lexus only staff.

I'll say it again - Lexus is totally organizationally separate from Toyota. The cars are NOT manufactured by Toyota, in the same way that Bentleys are not made by VW!

In fact, I would imagine that if you were to examine the amount of substantial component sharing, a Conti GT might be more VW than say a RX450-H is a Toyota? Be interesting to know, wouldn't it?

WOW..!! A proper super saloon, realy nice pic, the colour of the car and wheels the amg factory extended flared arches very nice. Remember all these cars were hand built on that model and ultimately are to this day bullet proof. Im on my second e-class now and it will be very hard to change my current e55 because of the comfort and the toys u get from amg or mabee its because i like giving subaru's and evo's fright at the lights lolol.

Great article on an amazing car. Remember, AMG built these before MB decided to put the V8's in the 124 sedan. Once MB started making the 420 E and the 500 E, Hammer prices (no pun intended wink) dropped drastically because AMG had to do far less work to drop it in. Also, if you wanted a 124 coupe or wagon with a V8, you were out of luck unless you went the AMG route.

The undeniably 1980s styling tweaks also help that outlandish top speed. Not only did they make the AMG Hammer look impossibly hard in a shoulder-padded sort of way, but they also brought some proper aerodynamic benefits.
Great 1980s fashion reference. I never thought anyone would've been able to work shoulder-pads into an article about an AMG car. Brilliant! biglaugh

I think you're right. When I think of AMG Hammer I picture a black 560 SEC rather than this.

This is the one I was thinking of. Turns out it's not a Hammer but an AMG 500 SEC wide body.
