Great time for mad cars. AMG Hammer, Callaway Sledgehammer etc. cool
MC Hammer too - were the 80s obsessed with handtools? biggrin
Definately; though in my case I was in my early teens and completely inept around the girls so handtools were the only option.

This is the one I was thinking of. Turns out it's not a Hammer but an AMG 500 SEC wide body.

Bad ass car this. Naughty to drive one . . .

love these cars, had 2 W124's and regularly longed for a V8 and sport suspension...just the rusting front wheel arches p****d me off otherwise exemplary build quality...appeased the longing for something more chuckable and quicker and bought a 964 C2...perfect compliment...merc's haven't been the same since but where to go next...? fast Audi..? (have baby will travel).

Awesome machine.

I drive an old 1991 W124 Mercedes 200TE as my daily car - a weedy 2.0 16v engine in an hulking great estate car body. It's wonderful though... so comfortable on long drives, and you simply wouldn't believe how much stuff you can fit into it. The ultimate load lugger!

Driving this car has given me a desire to own a W124 with a bit more punch someday - it's a wonderful drive, handles surprisingly well despite its bulk and age, but it just lacks any performance as you might expect. A 3+ litre version of my car would be perfection smile

fit in the AMG 'E' body lineup ?

E60 uses an M119 V8 - also found in the SL60.

BY FAR ONE OF THE BEST MACHINES EVER MADE. OWNING A 300E MYSELF MY LATEST OF AROUND 70 CARS I KNOW A THING OR TOO ABOUT MOTORS AND THESE THINGS WILL GO ON FOR EVER. THERE IS HOWEVER ONE MORE BEAST THAT IS EVEN RARE. THATS THE E60, YES ON A W124 SHAPE AND TRUST ME THEY FETCH £20K IN PRISTINE NICK AND WOULD SPIN RUBBER AT 150MPH..NOW THATS A MACHINE...
WHY ARE YOU SHOUTING?

And there's a W124 that's rarer than the "E60", and which you'll pay more like £150K+ to get your hands on - but you know a thing or 2 about MOTORS so I'm sure you kno what I'm talking about biggrin

Hint - it shares an engine with a car that comes with Pope shoes..
I do apologies mate! my caps lock is always on! You are refering to the 600 Grosser i take it? I have one for sale btw if you would like details let me know. And take a chill pill pal, this forum is for car fans so by me saying i've owned 70+ cars I'm not puffing out my chest simply stating facts and that the w124 is a stunning car. I also have THE finest 500e in the country for sale. it has 13k and will be advised shortly.

Car magazine featured the AMG Hammer when it came out, LKJ Setright raved about it, I think he may have concluded that it was the 'best car in the world' at the time - it was a great article (anyone got a copy?)
I also remember seeing one on the road - In Johannesburg South Africa, the noise it made was incredible, always wanted a car that sounded like that, pure knee trembling excitement..........

Weirdly the price comes up as POA but when you first click on it it lists as a shade under £35,000 - doesn't look anything like as Hammer as the bulging beauty in Harris' video - I bet that one costs a few bob more than 35 grand
