R32? I mean, they're as dull as blankets and driving one feels akin to gently sliding into a coma but it fits the criteria.

nono

The criteria included 'as much fun to drive' as a rally-rep. And cheaper to buy as well as better screwed together, which given the mixed reports you hear about VW these days days probably isn't a given.

What I've heard about the S60R is that its fast enough and competent enough, but certainly not a car described in any way as 'involving'.

Personally if you want something with rally-rep performance and handling, but more comfort and a more grown-up/subtle feel then I'd suggest taking a good look at a Legacy - either the 280bhp GTB (would be an import for you) or the 240bhp 3.0R Spec B.

Most cars (completely stock) are fine. If it came with any of the following, I wouldn't buy it.

LED washer jets
Loud exhaust
Wheels that are more than 4" bigger than stock
Any form of vinyl stickers
Aftermarket bodykit / spoiler

Those are all fairly bad signs - the car will look stupid and most likely be thrashed.
Not sure I follow that. My car has a loud exhaust and a front rally like spoiler and wheels substantially bigger than stock. But I can't see how it's chavy at all.
pictures?
no that is not "chavy"
No, but it is a TR7...hehe

It actually looks like it's been raised!

Each to there own but out of all the nice classics you could buy and modify, why would anyone pick a TR7??!!

I'm talking about road handling, for trackdays I use the MX5!

If Volvos are your thing (like Subarus for me wink ) then fair play to you and have fun, but I'd still suggest at least driving a Legacy for the sake of comparison.

The rest of your post was quite good, but this is utter rubbish!

I live on a council estate and there isn't a single Impreza there at all. In fact apart from a stock MG ZS180, stock Focus ST, RRS and a Sport KA all the cars are bog standard normal.

eh? confused

Yes its a TR7, the most successful Triumph Sports car out selling all the other TR models. Also a successful circuit and rally car and even made an appearance at LeMans sporting a twin turbo V8.

Well all this shows is you are talking rubbish!

The car has been dropped an 1", ok the 225 tyres are taller than the stock 175's. But it's fairly low to the ground, much lower than a regular car such as a Focus. As in there's no way you could crawl under it without putting it on a jack.

The engine also sits even lower (has been lowered in the enginebay) and the front subframe can catch on road humps if you aren't careful.

Why not?

And what would you suggest as a "better" alternative for the price?

Oh and to give a bit of history and FYI:

The TR7 is a very good platform. The chassis is strong and well designed. Better than many contempoaries of the time. As it was designed to meet crash regulations which were never introduced.

It's got a spacious cabin yet still retains a good sports car feel and driving positoin. Huge boot. Much more usable than an MBG and a nicer place to sit.

Still small and fairly light.

Massive engine bay designed from the off to take the Rover V8.

Good suspension setup.

Good choice of strong 5 speed gearboxes.

So why not?

I had an MGB before the TR and the TR is better in ever respect. I also personally like the way they look and judging by their current global following and record sports car sales for Triumph, many others must agree also.

Lots of tuning parts to make the car quick, fun and capable.

And price. At the time I'm sure I'd have loved a TVR like a Cerbera or even a Griff. But they cost 10x ore than I could afford. The TR7 cost me a lot less when I bought it in 2001.

It now runs (and has since mid 2001) a modded Rover V8 and will just about keep pace with a DC5 ITR and upset an RX-8.

Nope, next door. Not all houses on a council estate are council owned, many are private these days.

While we're on the subject of stereotypes, would that RRS be owned by the owner of the local, er, apothecary?;)

EDIT: Arrrghhh beaten to making a RRS/drug dealer connection - damn and blast!

Maybe, it's an 06 plate and I don't know the spec. So no idea what it cost. He had an almost new X-Type before and a Disco 3 before that. Their house is paid for and he erns good money. So why not?

This is my street, as you can see it's chav central :rolleye: with Barry'd up cars in every drive way tongue out
