This car does give single digit MPG on track I believe (this one gets trailered to and from track as well).
Mine did 9mpg on the Prodrive track - mixture of high speed and handling circuits and messing about about on the skid surfaces.

I'd have thought most 230bhp petrol cars would turn in single digits on track?
Lowest I have seen was on the road, not tracked the rx8 yet. It achieved 14mpg. 45litres of fuel disappeared in 140 miles.

Worst I had on the road was 15mpg (hair on fire). Best was 30mpg (motorway, once only). Average was 20mpg.

The boot is hugely useful too - you'd struggle to carry a bag of sugar in the back of a 350Z. smile
You would be surprised how big they are, when I had mine I got 2 17" alloys (no tyres) and a suitcase in the boot and the glove box behind the passenger seat is massive, I lost a pair of shoes and a coat in there for months

The RX-8's boot is a fair chunk bigger than the 350Z's - but the 350Z's is easier to access because it has a hatchback rather than a saloon style boot opening.

Yep, the RX8's boot is big for the type of car, but not that easy to get stuff in and out of.

When I first got mine we took it to Le Mans for the weekend and everything that we used to take in the Octavia went in (although it was tad more tightly packed, I'll admit), but you struggle to get a large suitcase in through the opening.

They are thirsty, they handle brilliantly, a 350Z is faster in a straight line, you can get 4 grown ups in them for more than a 5 minute drive, they're cheap to service, they use a bit of oil (but not the stupid amounts some people tell you), they're great looking from some angles and a bit awkward from others, they have a nice stereo, the factory sat nav is rubbish, they're cheap to buy...

Upsides and downsides - Your choice, but whilst something like a BMW 3 series coupe is a decent car (and something I'm sure I'd not mind owning), you can't buy a similarly performing (and certainly not handling) one of a similar age for anything like the same money.

There are now 5 RX8s where I work, one 03 car has just been traded in (and never had any problems to speak of) for a newer one, so the idea that they're all a disaster waiting to happen is probably as untrue of the RX8 as most other cars - Just looking at the large number of 03s onwards I see driving around every day proves that most are quite happily doing what they do every day.

But of course, they're not German and don't have V8 engines, so... smile
