Bugatti Supersport With 1200hp: Truth Or Fiction?

Whispers of planned 264mph Veyron circle the internet

A 1200hp Bugatti Veyron could be revealed this summer, if rumours circling the ‘webosphere’ are to be believed.

French website BugattiPassion.com and Dutch mag Auto Week both suggest that the new car will be called the Supersport, following in the traditions of the Type 55 from the 1930s and the EB110 from the 1990s.

The car will be revealed at the Pebble Beach concours in California this August, although September’s Paris show has also been mooted as a venue for the official unveiling.

Word is that just 30 examples of the Supersport will be built (as opposed to 300 coupes and 150 Grand Sport convertibles), and that the car will be capable of a 264mph top speed and of sprinting to 62mph from rest in a scarcely believable 2.2secs.

Ahh yes this is what the world/middle east needs. The Veyron is far too common these days.

Given the problems keeping 1000 horses cool, would it not need a halfords style intercooler poking out through the horseshoe grille?

Is it not claimed that the standard Veyron (dare I call it that) has approaching 1100bhp anyway? I seem to recall that bugatti's 987bhp, or rather 1001ps, meant that if an owner put the car on a rolling road it HAD to make a 1000 figure - so by their very nature, they're not far off that 1200bhp anyway.

I thought there were rumours of a more powerful one about since the Veyron first appeared. At least since about 2008 at the latest. According to Wikipedia the current one generates 1020 bhp or more.

Sounds like a quick win then smile Unleash 10% more power and rebadge the car smile

No.

The Veyron is an exquisitely engineered hypercar-to-end-all-hypercars and has all the money, influence and resources of the VW group to draw on.

The Venom is someone’s project, built in a shed, on a shoestring, which will go backwards into a hedge the first time it’s driver puts their foot down. It just happens to have the patronage of some of the PH team who are mates with the constructors.

Surely by that logic this model will claim 1200bhp and thus be in the region of 1400bhp in reality nez-pas?

I was cynically assuming that they'd just run closer to published spec and hope nobody notices hehe

With that much power adding 100bhp will not reduce the 0-60 time?

I guessed that, I'm just trying to sound clever after revealing myself as a Powertrain Engineer who'd forgotten how a clutch works earlier hehe

That was my guess; in reality not a 200bhp upgrade, but merely a 1200bhp label and a bit more horsepower.

Guess they might have adjusted the gearing a bit and maybe strengthened things up a so it can take more torque, might be a bit lighter too.

hmmmm.... im no mathematician but would that gain in horsepower really relate to that incresed top speed??

I thought that for every extra mph above what the veyron already does, that requires a not inconsiderable hp increase to overcome the drag....

anyone brighter than me care to help me out?!!

Adjust it to be slightly lower to the ground and give it some smarter venting that closes off some of them at high speed to lower the drag with some F duct type bypassing of the wings.

this is a pointless car.. it is just chasing numbers.

why dont they make a 'proper' ltd edition like Mclaren did with their orange LeMans road car spermspermsperm

I've seen claims of 300kg lighter too.

Not sure how, but there you go.

I say why not with this car... it's had plenty of money thrown at it to develop it so why not make the most of it and release updates/improvements etc?

If they can make a more intimate drivers car out of it, while also adding a bit more useful power and grunt, then great I say!

IF this is true, i'd wager that in the same style as the old SS models, they'll also cut some weight.

Not hard to do really. They could add 100bhp, but more realistically could remove probably 150kg by making it more hardcore.

Then it may be an animal.

Interesting stuff.
