I think what you're actually complaining about is pedestrian impact legislation. Hard rigid bumpers would be a bad thing when impacting a leg. A relatively soft plastic bumper, would be a better thing to hit someone with. From the perspective of the person being hit with a car that is.

Yes modern car crumple zones do a great job of protecting passengers, but at a high cost.
I think we differ on what we term "high cost". Paying the excess on a written off car and a higher insurance premium versus the risk of serious injury to my family in the car?

FTO Vs 4X4 Transit.

I drove under it as it pulled out in front of me when I was about 20 feet from it doing 30mph.I managed to steer away from the front axle and hit it amidships punting it down the road tearing off the far side tyres. I went under up to the windscreen frown

I miss my FTO frown

Guess that was written off cry

Loos like it will repair fine, it comes to most of us at some point, I had my moment before Christmas but luckily had taken a company car.

Your little Renault doesn't look too badly damaged. Was the big, bad Mustang driver speeding?

Damn.. Hope you're ok Dr I.

Odd that it looks like no airbags deployed.

No airbags, but plenty of bent metal. Lights were out, and the Clio turned right across me, had nowhere to go.

Not sure if the Mustang will be repaired. Bonnet, both front wings, headlights, whole front end. Rad pushed back two inches, airbox moved, and one of the chassis rails bent.

Mid thirties, same age as me. We were in the same class in primary school.

I think you missed the joke. You need a parrot, or whatever it is that the cool kids around here say.

This may sound dumb as I know nothing about this stuff, but surely that should be enough of an impact to trigger your airbags? Such a beautiful car, you must be miffed, albeit safe frown

He was fine without the airbags, so what would have been the purpose of having them go off?

Airbags are a one time deal, and programmed to go off when needed, rather than inflate after any bump.

Plus airbags going off aren't exactly fun. They're bloody loud and unpleasant.

I once span my old MR2 into a wall. I was fine, no airbags deployed, but the car looked a mess. Given that I bounced off the wall into the road, the airbags were still ready if anyone else had driven into me.
