My Dad's van a few years ago.
Driving along one his his favourite roads a few years ago he came across an unexpected lorry smile, hit the brakes, did a full 360° spin and then hit it head on! his only injury was a slightly bleeding finger, the lorry driver (one of his friends) was fine

Put a slight dent in his driving for 40 years and never had an accident lecture laugh

My dad and I were in the Mondeo. Articulated lorry wasn't paying attention, ended up on our side of the road (suspected mobile phone use, but was only ever done for driving without due care).

Skimmed a skip lorry and then hit us head on. Closing speed of about 60mph between us. The only major injury was a broken foot for the lorry driver. My dad and I got bad whiplash, cuts and so forth but we're very lucky.

Only letting me upload one photo, but will upload another in a reply to this.
Mind that

2016 - Drink driver in a connect van with no lights on came out of a blind T junction onto a 50mph single carriageway, the rest is, well, a bit broken...

Managed to push his engine block into the cabin...

Back in 2017 at a crossroads about 1 minute from my home. Van on the opposite side, not indicating and angled like he was going straight over. I set-off and then so does he turn right, across my path as I go straight on. There was the smallest of marks on the van, I think it was a Renault Master, but a reasonable amount of damage to my Leon - the repair cost something like £4500.

I didn't have a dashcam so couldn't prove the driver wasn't indicating or set-off after I had, the driver refused liability so we had to go 50/50. It happened at no more than 15mph but of course both occupants of the van suffered whiplash... Which the insurance unbelievably paid out for.

I suppose he had to say hasta la vista to his credibility as a teacher? After all, it's been... terminated.

It doesn’t need to be a 50/50 surely?

If you’re going straight on, you have right of way.
The person crossing the path of the person going straight ahead has to concede RoW.

Obviously, past tense now so it doesn’t matter.

I did 48 MPH on my road bike, through the flying 1/8th down Conrod straight Bathurst in 1952 aged 12.

I did 184 mph in 1968 in a Brabham Repco F1 down the same straight. Much better idea, although I'm not sure it was any safer.

Give over. I got >45mph out of my mountain bike on full knoblies about 25 years ago.

Admittedly down a fking great hill and I was *much* fitter then but someone on a normal "racer" would have breezed past me.
Exactly this...
That's but a minor scrape.
I've hit 55 on my road bike
I mean, I've done 55 mph down Fleet Moss on a commuter bike (MTB with slicks)! This 30 mph was on a flat road.
I did once chase a lorry on the ring road on that bike, and got to 48 mph on a very gentle downhill. rofl
Fortunately, neither scenario resulted in a crash!

To be honest, I was extremely surprised just how minor the scrapes to me were.

I had very similar a few years ago. Me going straight over, van coming across my path. It is a really blind crossroads, so you have to remain looking right, as stuff comes flying round the bed and you can have to abort or get your foot down.

I looked forwards when clear and the side of the van was in front of me. Insurance are still thrashing it out.

There's been a previous PH thread about this where some people have been taught that the traffic turning right has right of way, i.e. traffic going straight on has to give way to traffic coming across from their right - as if theres a mini roundabout drawn in the middle of the junction

Good of you to share, that must make you wince seeing the photos and the video.
Did you fit a rear roll cage or does that model come with that fitted? Good job it was in there!

At those speeds (140+mph) that bit of track demands full attention and there is no room if it all goes wrong. Have you been back on the circuit since this incident?
