The only damage visible to my GS1200 after I got sideswiped while overtaking a car. Fortunately I managed to stay upright more through luck than judgement.
Easily fixed you’d say but unfortunately it pulled one of the crash bar bolts out the crankcase, twisted the rear subframe and split the petrol tank.

Yes the guy was fine. Stopped and was most apologetic.
As soon as I got home I phoned his insurance co. They then phoned him to confirm the details and called me back within an hour accepting full responsibility.
I got asked where I wanted it to go (the dealer I’d bought it from 6 weeks previously )
I got 300 quid less than what I’d paid for it so that worked out not too badly. I’d have loved to have bought it back and repaired it as I could have made a few quid on it but they would only let it be broken for parts.

£12,700? Madness. How much was the actual bike?Easily fixed you’d say but unfortunately it pulled one of the crash bar bolts out the crankcase, twisted the rear subframe and split the petrol tank.

I worried I was going to be here last night. M1, near Leicester last night, clear traffic, 80ish MPH (awaits our Brake members....) lane 4 just overtook a car. Suddenly a gust caught the back end of the car (which must be 1.7 tonnes?) and pushed the car diagonally to near 45 degrees. For a second or two my forward view was of the central reservation, and I really thought I was about to have a big one. Straightened up after (probably) a far smaller unit of time than it felt, but it woke me up somewhat!

Lucky, saw very similar driving back from Scotland down the M6 about a month ago, just past Carlisle where you suddenly get exposed over that bridge, between the hills. It was heavy rain, we were doing about 40 in the inside lane as were most people and a car went past at probably only 60, caught the crosswind and did the same. He stooped on the hard shoulder to recompose I guess.Fermit said:

What car was this?edit to add, yep, not a bad guess at the weight, 1733kg. Our car, except Elite Nav not tech, so a few more toys to increase the weight, marginally - https://www.thetowcarawards.com/tow-car/vauxhall-i...

I suspect both the angle and the time were far smaller than it felt, but I'm sure it was terrifying all the same!kambites said:

Agree with both, but I specifically recall my forward view was of the Armco. I guess it's how good modern traction control is, had I been in one of my early cars without it I suspect the outcome could have differed!
My first accident, 15-20 years ago, I got rear-ended on the offside corner on a DC by an impatient tt in a people carrier that couldn't wait for me to move out of his way and misjudged his approach speed....I found myself doing the same as the OP, while spinning the wheel from lock to lock a few times as quickly as I could to save the tank-slapper he punted me into.
I did rescue the car, somehow (no driver aids...this was a DC2 I'd only had for maybe 6 months), and like the Insignia driver above it felt like big angles, but in reality it was probably only half what it felt like and was over in a few seconds.

now this is where dashcam footage is good for you! Whatever, glad 'nothing serious' happened (besides needing new undercrackers)Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
