Steep hill.
First rain in weeks.
1/4 ton of soil in the back.
I was doing about 15-20.
XC90 came the other way.
Hit the brakes & ABS just chattered.
Realised I wasn’t going to stop so decided to nose into the hedge rather than hit her.
My Ranger climbed the bank the rolled on to her bonnet.
Rather embarrassingly the attending police officer was a girl I quite liked from school, but in my pre-occupied state failed to recognise her even when she prompted me.
Not a good morning.
Sold it to a mate who managed to straighten the roof & A pillar, got a screen in & tidied up the rest.
Then it blew it’s head gasket & it turned out to be full of K-Seal after all.

Absolutely gutting, what a lovely car. Did you manage to catch up with the BMW owner to claim on insurance? Any Police involvement?
Nope to both, witness stopped to help us but didn't get reg number, and police weren't interested. Farmer came and pulled it out with his tractor and was most upset about his fence... it was him that called the police on me for damaging it...The Wookie said:

Scrapi? With the current old Ford market, that will be in the Silverstone auction next month, and sell for twenty grand.
Heisenberg in his BMW ran into the back of my Karmann Ghia the day the restoration was finished. Doesn't look much but would have been £25k to repair as a NOS wing was £2.5k and rear panel £1k so it was written off. I bought it back off the insurance and sold it to a chap who was going to repair it himself. He got it straight and ready for paint when his workshop burnt down taking the KG and others with it. It had been crashed the other side before I bought it which probably wrote it off too. I didn't have agreed value insurance either.

I'd love to know what his excuse was for not being able to outbrake a 1960's car

I worried I was going to be here last night. M1, near Leicester last night, clear traffic, 80ish MPH (awaits our Brake members....) lane 4 just overtook a car. Suddenly a gust caught the back end of the car (which must be 1.7 tonnes?) and pushed the car diagonally to near 45 degrees. For a second or two my forward view was of the central reservation, and I really thought I was about to have a big one. Straightened up after (probably) a far smaller unit of time than it felt, but it woke me up somewhat!
Wind blew your car 45 degrees? Nah, not having that.
That came across a bit tttish. But if wind alone was capable of doing that then every HGV in the country would be on its side.
