I've seen some wheels I'm interested in buying for my other halfs 330ci, but they are fitted with nearly new Accelera Phi tyres.

I know they are a budget tyre, but I have never tried them. I tend to go with something mid-range like Khumo KU31, Falken FK451/452 on her previous cars, and run T1R's on my Eunos.

I've bought a set of wheels for my T5 which have a couple of Accelera Alpha fitted, but have yet to fit them to try them out.

I'm just worried that if these Accelera tyres are really poor, then it could be a bad idea for my missus in her relatively new (to her) car, with little rear drive experience.

Opinions??

Surprisingly ok for a budget tyre, probably the best of the budget tyre options. They are'nt ditch finder speacials, come with a not too high treadwear rating which means they are made of rubber not plastic.

bks. They are ditch finders to the highest degree. Cheaper even than a Nankang tyre

The best 'value' tyre on the market is easily the Falken FK452, highly regarded and not at all expensive, maybe £20 per tyre more than a ditchfinder. Big difference between low cost and value for money.

I'm by no means a tyre snob and realise that not everyone wants to spend big money on Continental or bridgestone but why waste money on utter ste just because it costs less?

To the OP, those tyres, on a 330 or T5 is insanity. I very briefly had budgets on the front axle of my first T5 and wheel spin in 4th was a daily occurence. The replacement BF Goodrich tyres lasted a lot better and were IMHO money well spent

I haven't driven a car with Accelera tyres so I would have to apply my tyre buying rule - if they aren't a well-known premium brand, I must've read at least a couple of reviews from trusted sources that say they are good before I will buy them.

So you've actually tried the tyres in question? Or are you just speculating based on them being cheaper than Nankangs?

You're right to be worried. I'd have something a lot stickier on, especially if it was my missus driving. E bay the tyres and stick the falkens on, or something better if you can afford it.

I don't know the tyres. But I'd take this guys opinion pretty seriously. He sees the odd set of tyres what with his smoking habit.

I have them on the front of my MG ZT. The grip is fine for everyday driving but they're very noisy on the motorway. (They were on the car when I got it, not by choice.)

I've had Accelleras on my mk1 GTI, rhw old man got them fitted for me, suprisingly ok actually, and that was a few years back, didn't find any ditches in that car.

I have also had FK452s, they were a waste of money, I felt scared on them, so much so, when the fronts wore out in 5000 miles, I replaced all 4, dreadful tyres, will never put those hunks of st on my car, screached alot, felt no give in the sidewall on corners, my car became understeery for an AWD car, no confidence in the wet.

O/P Get them, try them, unless your misses is going to be driving on the edge I think you will be ok, thousands of other motorists who don't care about tyres are probably wearing them.

Mixed opinions then!!

I mean I'm no tyre snob either, as I certainly believe that some of the top brand tyres are hugely over hyped. My 850 T5 is running some P6000's (probably the original ones, lol!!) and I guess I'm lucky it's an auto as it doesn't bite quite as hard as a manual would, but it's fairly easy to light those up when damp/cold.

I used to always run Eagle F1's (this is what the 330ci has on at mo) and always liekd them ,except they wore out too quickly. Then I decided to give Kumho KU31's a go and have been fairly impressed with them for the cash, so have used them since. I've not tried FK452's, but have run the older 451 and also the ZX range. I liked the 451's.

Anyway, I agree that if she won't be driving the car too hard it should be much of a muchness, but not being a regular RWD driver until now I'd be worried she'd forget not to floor it around a wet bend or roundabout expecting the traction control to sort it out (haven't tested it yet, lol!!)

Although, she used to drive my S13 without any issues.

Would be nice for anyone else who has tried the tyres to chime in, but tbh if I have doubts it probably not worth buying them, as I'd get peanuts for the tyres and buying a new set of something half decent would end up doubling the costs.

Have you had a look at the Hankook Evo 12's?

Not sure how much they are in your particular tyre sizes but they aren't the most expensive of tyres (mid range a bit like the Falken's)and get very good reviews.

Accellera are the UK brand name for Apollo Tire, who own Vredestein. So, they're basically the Vredestein budget brand.

I had them on an Astra, had no problems with them at all, I found zero difference between grip on the Accellera and the Bridgestone RE720 they replaced. They lasted marginally longer than the Bridgestones too...

Yes, and thankfully not fitted to my own car.

Coincidently these were fitted to the rear of my 330ci when I bought it, they were fine, caused no issues at all in the dry or wet.

They were on the front of my V70 when I purchased it, so in the same boat as OP.

They weren't "bad" in the dry, but bad in the wet. The difference in the handling / noise / feeling of security when I swapped them out for the Michelin Primacy was night and day.....

I'm not a tyre snob, but as this is the family waggon I won't scrimp.
